haha there is a point of no return on cleaning white bar tape....i don't wear gloves so they tend to dirty up quick
~6/28 Got a sweet new bag for Father's day, time to break it in right!! Timbuk2 Spire, 30L bag with some molle straps to hang stuff off of. Better internal organizers than my old bag. Waterproof, lifetime warranty and pretty nice material.
I took dirty ribbons to work, 80% dirt, few miles on pavement

I've been having an itch to ride my bike from San Francisco to Home here in San Diego. Worked something out with the wife, we're going to drive up on a Friday, spend the weekend up there and start the trip down on Monday Sept 18th.
I'm still in the planning/ordering phase of it. I'd like to get gear sooner so I can try load outs and how much distance I can get on a loaded bike.

That was the Big Laguna trail aka blt, around the valley up there. Mt Laguna off Sunrise hwy. trail was pretty flat,!we did extra credit for the hills. Also the top section of the famous Nobel Canyon trail

Better late then never. First ride w/ new bags and stuffed with almost complete items minus extra clothing kit, hygiene kit, bike repair kit. I'll be riding this rig from San Francisco to San Diego later this month. 700 miles in 6 days...I hope...not 7.

It's been a wild ride on the bike this past week. We took family up to San Francisco last friday for a vacation, nice 7hr drive plus stops along the way. And on monday they left me there with my bike while they drove home to San Diego. Yes they left me.....on my own will
~9/18 Day #1 to pedal home. It took longer to get out of the city, gmaps said it was only 8 miles, but there was some hills, and allot of sight seeing to enjoy. Just don't follow the bike tours....some don't know how to use brakes to go straight. As typical SF weather, it was thick wet fog, I had bought some new gear for this trip, and that included 2 kits and a capo winter thermal jacket (half price kinda of shopper but still expensive and I needed it to work) The fog was wet, the jacket kept me dry but I was burning up inside from working on those hills and they never stopped coming, one after the next.
I finally crossed the city and got to the west end but was still in soup patches. Some where light, some were really thick. I used ridewithGPS.com for my routing and kept me off the freeways unless needed. Blessing and curse. I snaked around side streets over the 35/1 for a while. The ocean wasn't even visible, non then less 100 ft in front of me. So I was happy to be on side streets even if it added miles.
I finally popped out of the Devil Slide tunnels and it was AMAZING pc of work. Slight downhill so no work was needed to coast the tunnel at a decent clip and still takes pics. The slide had acted as a weather wall as well, as I exited into the sunlight. Rolling hills for miles and miles. Took me to see cove after cove, I didn't stop much as I needed to get to camp before sunset. I'm always racing the sun. I had a bit of tail wind so I was finally able to make up some time from the 10mph for the first two hours.
I passed small town after town, thinking I was good on fuel. I had two bottles from SF and i tend not to drink much when I'm cold. Bad J Bad. Then about 3-4 hours into the mess, I was out in no mans land, no more shops, no water to be found anywhere for miles on my phone that was slow because lack of service. I gone and screwed up. I came up to a light house 60 miles into my ride. less then half a bottle left from when I left the Hotel that morning. I got some pics and rode down to see if I can find water. Bless them for having a hose bib outside. I drank 2 bottles there, filled up the two for the road and push on to race the sun. I arrived at Santa cruz about 30miles later.5 mins before sunset and got my ticket for the night from the ranger. Asked if any food was around, he said Thai and a sandwich spot in the gas/market about 3/4mile up a hill. I opted for the market. Fish n chips, 1/2# cheese burger, fries, 1liter coke, 1 pint of IPA, (3) 20oz gatoraids, cold coffee and donuts. Allot of food in one recycled bag but it was down hill to camp right? until I got on camp grounds, rounded the first steep drop in and my wahoo Bolt pegged 14% while carry 10 pounds of food. I finally made it to camp, set up my tent so I can have a bug free zone to pull out the dinner and drinks. Coffee and donuts were for breakfast. Camp was 100 yards from the bluff/waters edge, showers and bathroom was 50 yards away. I locked up my bike to the BBQ grill and took my 50cent shower.
I engulf my dinner and sipped on the coke enjoying the sugar. I spent most of the evening after that talking to the other bikepacker that was there before me. She is even crazier then I. She's from London, flew to Vancover Canada and started on Aug 15th. It was the 18th and she been at it for a month minus 1 week she spent hiking at Yosemite National Par. She is still on the bike as of today, she flies out of San Diego on Oct 3rd to go back to London. She had to deal with the fires/smoke in Oregon a few weeks ago, ended up having to hitch hike to get past the really smokey sections. Amazing story. She's on a Genesis CX steel bike with hydro disks brakes and 4 pannier setup. Which it seems to be the common and proper way to tour oppose to my pack less lighter setup.

Cool beenz man, never checked out your ride photos threads before!
You rode back, and set up the tent, locked up the bike, and took a shower, all before eating? No way man, I woulda scarfed it all down in the parking lot of the market. (Then again, I would have opted for Thai)
...I engulf my dinner and sipped on the coke enjoying the sugar.

@RubeRad I got really good Thai on Friday night in Santa Barbara, but that's a different story. My PC keyboard died so will get another tomorrow to write about day 2
