I went to the LBS to purchase some shoes, by chance they were having a sale on Sidi shoes. They really know how to hook me with those silly sale signs. I tried on several shoes, widths, and brands. I ended up bringing Ergo 2's home. I wore them around the house for a few hours and noticed my right foot big toe would settle on the edge of the carbon sole. Not comfy at all. I was bummed to say the least. I really liked these shoes.
Went back for round two of trying on shoes. I ended up really liking the 2010 Specialized S-Works shoe. I bought those and wore them around the house with no pain or discomfort. Rode them today and couldn't be happier. They fit really nice. The on the fly ratchet BOA gizzmo's are pretty cool for on the fly adjustments. I cant believe how light and stiff they are. I guess time will tell if they hold up well. To each his own on shoes but am I glad I went back. Cant wait to try the Specialized blue footbeds, should be here next week. In the end I have happy little feet

Carbon Unit

I've tried the S-Works shoes on too and really like them. They would be my choice for my next pair of shoes if it wasn't for the shoes that DMT just released. Now I have a tough choice. DMT makes shoes with a Speedplay specific hole pattern which would reduce the stack height. The down side to the DMT shoes is that don't think I can find them locally. Specialized sells through a couple of LBSs. Luckly, my old shoes are not dead yet.

I wear Specialized now and plan on upgrading to the S-Works when my LBS gets them in.

Weird that you test them out by walking around the house. They aren't designed for that.

I tried on my Shimano R086 shoes and in the store I was walking around and I told the guy they were slipping. Well the size below was way too tight so my only option was the slipping shoe. He told me not to stress about it since the cycling motion and the walking motion are two totally different animals.

Sure enough on the bike no slipping at all. I've got 1200 miles on them with nary a problem. 4 hour 70+ mile ride and no hot spots or discomfort at all.

Maybe something like a toe rubbing is different but I think I still would have given them at least one session on the bike.

The reason I didn't try them is, I asked about the return policy. I was told they couldn't be scratched at all. I wore them around the house just to get a feel for them as best I could. I didn't walk in them so much as I stood on them. They weren't rubbing just slightly tight, not snug but tight on the one toe. It seemed like my right foot doesn't sit in the shoe the same as the left. When I pushed down on the toe I could feel the edge of the carbon sole, like my toe was pushing out the shoe over the sole. If that makes sense. I tried different sizes and widths no luck. I think what it might be is the upper on the Sidi is soft all the way to the sole? and the Specialized have a ridge around the toe box that is stiff. You can feel it through the outside of the shoe. Not sure though as I dont have the SIdi's to confirm. Just a quirck with my right foot I guess. I just figured if it bothered me off the bike it would be 100x worse on the bike.

Be aware that the spesh shoes have an in built varus wedge. I find this extremely good for my knees but a small percentage of people will find the opposite. If you get any new or unexpected issues then the footbeds are sold with wedges that can be used to either add to or remove the built in wedge. good luck with them.

Thanks. Yeah I ordered the blue footbeds for the arch support. I knew they came with wedges, I don't think I'll need them. I rode 30 miles today with the new shoes with no issues. We'll see after a week or so.

The Specialized Comp's are nice as well, carbon sole, foot wedges all for $160 at my LBS, what are the differences between them and the S-Works. I am looking at getting the comp's, and might be able to be persuaded otherwise

I have the 2008 model and love them. Almost perfect shoes (my only complaint is that the "black" model is more silver than black).

I bought a pair of Comps last year and they're great. They were the only shoe I tried on that day that held my heal firmly on the sole. I have no complaints, and recommend them. Of course, if you can convince yourself to get the S-Works, more power to you!

"Spesh" is a common shortening of Specialized in the UK. Just try going on a UK forum and saying "Campy". I warned ya.
