That could upset the harmony in Cinelli Land.
It upset the Marvelous Masi Multitudes.

Probably so, but it would be a fun lost weekend.

It certainly needs fresh paint.
Read the OP's first post again: he said the 1981 Super was black. The two photos are of the same bike. The chrome chainstay might be throwing you off; I'd imagine that might have been one of these sticker versions Colnago did for a couple years.

It doesn't matter now anyway as the frame is on the way to being refinished and that's okay. Now that the paint's off, I'm looking forward to seeing the restoration

This subject thread is interesting to me. I have in my frame/paint shop a 58 cm Colnago (maybe its a 57) that has never been painted nor ridden. I got it when I went to a Miele Auction in Toronto when they went bust in 1995. They were at one time the importers to Colnagos to Canada. They also had a paint department. I've never been motivated enough to paint it myself because color decisions have to be made based on what is the most likely color to sell the frame. There is always a chance that the painted frame value might be less than the value of the paint. The fork was chrome plated.

Nope, he said that he was thinking about reproducing it in black. I reckon I understood this ambiguity to mean that he intended to paint the older frame black but put newer decals on it. In any case, you are exactly right. His pictures show the same frame (which if I looked a bit closer I'd have recognised that neither pic showed an 81 frame).

I'm still voting for orange, though I really would like to see him get creative with some currently trendy colors.

To the OP: I've always been partial to the orange, but the green of that year is great too.
First pic in the thread was the bike as I bought, the same bike later with decals removed. As much as I like the legend of the orange Super, it also seems like the color most often seen on that model, for legendary reasons of course. I just want something less common. It will be getting paint next week. Stay tuned!
