Folks, the OP showed pictures of 2 different bikes, one in great shape and the other the subject of his repaint plans. The 1981 Colnago is indeed in great shape but the other one to be repainted looks to me that it has already had a so-so paint job in the past, judging from the lug lining and lack of decals. It certainly needs fresh paint.
It doesn't matter now anyway as the frame is on the way to being refinished and that's okay. Now that the paint's off, I'm looking forward to seeing the restoration

This subject thread is interesting to me. I have in my frame/paint shop a 58 cm Colnago (maybe its a 57) that has never been painted nor ridden. I got it when I went to a Miele Auction in Toronto when they went bust in 1995. They were at one time the importers to Colnagos to Canada. They also had a paint department. I've never been motivated enough to paint it myself because color decisions have to be made based on what is the most likely color to sell the frame. There is always a chance that the painted frame value might be less than the value of the paint. The fork was chrome plated.

I'm still voting for orange, though I really would like to see him get creative with some currently trendy colors.
