Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thinner Chamois Please

I think I like a thinner chamois, anybody else know of good bibs or shorts that are thinner? I have Sugio and Gore shorts (one big, one shorts) and think that there is just to much stuff squishing around down low. I went riding with normal shorts around the hood and found my arse felt pretty good.
Any recommendations (brand, online store?).

Thanks.

... can't edit the title... chamois.

I too am interested in this. I have an old pair of Shimano shorts with just a piece of soft cloth sewn to the lycra and prefer those.

Go for some triathlon shorts. The chamois is designed for both cycling AND running, so it's very thin in most models. Bibs pretty much don't exist in tri-land, though, but you could go for a tri suit and wear a jersey on top. I love my 2XU tri suits, but there are a lot available. Otherwise, you could try the cycling stuff from 2XU or Skins.

Giordana Silverline - one of my faves, with a quality thin chamois and reasonably priced. Rode them 148 miles in the B2B on Saturday, and they were excellent.

I'm going to hit up some of the bike shops on the far side of town. The ones on my side all have the same few brands with massive bulging arse pillows.

Is there any visual difference between regular shorts and tri shorts? I mean, I suck at swimming, I wouldn't want anyone to mistake me for being athletic or anything.

They're cut a little shorter, but you can find ones that look very similar to cycling shorts. I'd just try some on and make sure you check the inseam measurement if ordering online.

I'm wondering if your shorts are too big for you? Perhaps you should look at a smaller size, which should come with a smaller, though not necessarily thinner, chamois.

Additionally, I've found that chamois's tend to thin out the more you wear them.

Personally, I would never consider tri shorts due to their minimalist design - they are designed to be worn swimming, running and bicycling, being perfect for none but acceptable for all.

Thinner chamois can be found on tri gear. The soft cloth sewn in is usually what you find on that type of gear. Look for some of that if you prefer it!

On my quest for thinner chamois I hit up a local shop that seems to only keep really nice gear (and has great stock, I picked up a pair of those SIDI Vernice, they had my size and colour). I tried on a really pricey pair of sugoi, and an even slightly more expensive (though not the most expensive they make) an Assos bib (Uno.s5 model). Wow... the chamois is a bit thinner, but it is much nicer feeling also... less "gel" feel, just comfortable. I really like these. I don't know how I will ride with any other bib now. I will need more of these.

Pearl Izumi's best shorts have a thin chamois. The thicker ones are on the less expensive shorts.

DeSoto makes a tri bib - the Forza...

if you order from their site (desotosports.com) you can try it and return basically for any reason at any time, so you could try it for a few rides and exchange or get refunded if they don't work out

one of the best companies in the universe to deal with
