What happened to Steve Madden?
Did it all of a sudden become obvious to his boss that he ran out of ideas?

I didn't notice he was gone; but then I haven't read my latest issue yet.

You Know!? For Kids!
His older brother John mistook him for a turducken and ate him, with some mashed potatoes, pumpking pie, slaw, pickles, relish tray, rolls, deviled eggs, corn casserole, stuffing with giblet gravy and sweet iced tea.

At first I was thinking John Madden. The turducken story then makes sense.

I subscribe for the glossy pics. The rest of the magazine is recycled so much, it's almost tongue-in-cheek.
I don't know how I'd feel about the new editor's direction. She seems to be steering the magazine towards substance and culture. Already there are sentiments of Americana, then and now. And more real estate for Fred means less space for exotic European sex.
I mean just read her introduction, she could throw this up-side down. Seriously, the editorials need to be really good for it to live up to the shiny pictorials.

There was an editorial at the beginning of the last issue I read where he wrote his good-byes. He was pretty vague about his reasons for moving on.

I heard he got lambasted for posting pics of bikes that were not his on a forum.

I enjoy reading the magazine but I have always felt that try to hard to be everything to everybody and as a result there coverage is lacking at best. I would say the magazine is ok for a newbie who is hungry for anything bicycle and just needs the basics. Hopefully a new person in the driver seat will give the magazine a little more direction.

the answer is simple. the mag is skinnier than it used to be.
in the mag business, that is bad. mags get skinnier b/c fewer advertisers are buying space. advertisers buy less space b/c there are fewer readers. fewer readers are the editor's fault.
