Another Mad Honk Special 1991 OS Model, Waterford Paramount
his is the frameset that Dave offered a few weeks ago. Since it was just a frameset and a derailleur set, it took me a while to collect the rest of the parts. MH supplied the Tri-color derailleurs and I had the matching STI shifters/levers and the dual pivot brakes that came off my 50th Anniversary Edition Paramount when I upgraded it to Dura Ace. The crankset is 105 since the long Tri-color CS went on another project. This is a preliminary build to get some miles on it. So far, due to our weather, Ive only put about 8 miles on it, mainly test & setup rides. The longest was ~3miles. It rides and fits well.
Future plans include; getting a Tri-color 170mm crank, gray cable housing like the original, decals and HB tape. Its been difficult finding pictures of complete bikes of this model.
A couple of questions for those of you who are more knowledgeable them me. The original decals were silver with a small amount of color. The dull colors combined with the white powder coat makes the bike kind of dull. Velocals offers the correct style of decals/stickers in various colors. Would it be sacrilege to add some pizzaz to the color scheme for this bike. I also need to find a shorter stem. Although the front wheel clearance looks tight, it's the same as my Prologue and the fork has been checked by a shop. Any comments?
Please dont laugh at my test ride pedals or the cheapy Schwinn branded saddle.
Cheers,
Van

Van,
It is your bike and so far it is looking good! Put whatever decals on it you want. The War Department will be the first to tell you that I only paint one color: white. When I was building houses I painted all interiors white, It was easier than painting colors that the new owners would not like and ask for expenses to repaint the rooms. But that was just bizniz as normal. I think you can add colors or decals that make it pop! (remember the bike covered in comic book characters?)
I took my Trek 830 to the co-op tonight and donated it. I don't think I am gonna ride it anymore and someone should be riding it. I looked for a stem and they didn't have anything like what you currently have.
The next one up will be a Pinarello that is a bit too tall for me. I started to get it ready today and I forgot how much fun it is to do the pantograph paint fill. Smiles, MH
