I'm just imagining how a REAL hard impact (pothole, curb jump, etc. on the REAR wheel would force the whole rear triangle upward, and with nothing at the seat tube / stay joint keeping it from moving forward, the "top" tube / seat tube lug would become the point where the seat tube gives within the lug.
No impact needed. Heavy rider, lots of miles. That square-edged lug midway up the seat tube is perfectly placed to be a stress riser. Never would have happened with an electroforged Schwinn.

So it was probably over a series of very small increments, then? The death of a thousand bumps, so to speak. I've seen pics of other versions of this bike, where the lug has curved edges; I wonder if this ^^^^^ is why.

Typical craigslist transaction:
Hi, is your bike still for sale?
Yes, it is.
What's the lowest you would go on it?
2 mph, anything slower you'll fall over.

Wife had this model years ago, but the wheelbase on this one seems a bit shorter.

Bicycle is in very good condition and has been carefully maintained. Ride it regularly.... Never been in accident....

It does appear to be in great shape, for the right customer that wants a distinctive bar for a vintage MTB, it would be worth offering $30 and compromising at $40

Anyone in C&V have $220 and thirteen tandem frames handy? What about thirteen captain right crank arms? Price in copy is from earlier auction attempt, I guess. Now under $10 ea

26 vintage Shimano FC-M730 (Deore XT I think) tandem timing chain Crankarms. All are 175mm. These accept left side pedals as they are designed for tandem use. 24 are brand new. The 2 that have Chainrings are lightly used Opening bid is $400 for all 26 pieces. That is under $16 per Crank. These came to me as closeout stock from Santana tandems

Brain Transplant Please, Abby Normal

Therapeutic bike - $1500 (Norlina)

"Bike was used very little. It was supposed to be for therapy for a person who needed a liver transplant."

https://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/d...722757424.html

(A strong contender for worst picture, but alas, there are more photos. I am at a loss as to how this machine functions as therapy for someone needing a liver transplant. Then again, "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not an engineer!")

(Hopefully, I've happily contributed to other's liver damage.)

(Edit: Apologies if I'm somehow being insensitive. I have earned the right, but that would not excuse it entirely.)

After my hernia surgery (complete success, thank the stars), I was off the bike for about two months, to allow my midsection to heal. A handcycle might have been doable, but I have a free bus pass and it was late in the season. I reckon after any surgery to the lower torso, a vehicle like this would be handy (oops, bad pun).

Back in the early 1980s I had a Bianchi MTB with a rear triangle like that. The frame was 21" and the space between the seatube and the rear fender was so great that I was able to mount a water bottle cage with a 500ml water bottle in it there.

Cheers
