It tough finding a catalog for giant to look at but I think the giant is in the 90s only bc of the vertical drop outs. I wish it looked nicer but I kind only want the giant bc it's the only lugged steel road bike i see with vertical dropouts triple butted at that.
I enjoy finding frames I like and buying it and another doner bike to build it with. People with complete bikes often think they have something extra special just because it's ridable lol then there are people that try and get all their money back for every upgrade they ever put on the bike

trek: fuggetaboutit..... and no fork

what is the end goal(s) learning how to do this stuff, super nice bike, friction or indexed, what tools do you have? just having fun? etc having an idea might help tailor responses.... i.e if you want indexed, that will need to be more matchy matchy in parts than friction would be

side note: this is about the mellowest forum there is and experienced/knowledgeable to boot. The input you get will be based on that.

What is it with you guys and end goals?

"Having an idea might help tailor responses"

If you've ever asked someone to use their phone and they ask you "for what"

When my neighbor asks me to use some toilet paper I always ask him "for what"

If he had an idea what he wanted to do with the toilet paper he would get a more tailored response from me

This forum in a nut shell.

Let me be the example of someone that has too many friends and is indifferent about acquiring more through false humility.

Uncompromisingly honest

Looks like you're new here, just saying "close this thread" doesn't make it so. Moderators don't have time to read through every single post, so we have a "flare gun" button to get their attention.

A message box will pop up, state your request and reasoning, and a mod will act on it.

Btw, a month in, a hundred posts and getting grumpy already makes me wonder if this is the right place for you.

Apparently you missed the part where I quoted you.

And I did it properly, so it wasn’t a confusing mess, which I’ve now been forced to re-quote.

I’ve changed my mind. I think you should buy the Trek, and I’ll make you a sweet deal on some parts just because you seem like a great person to do business with.

EDIT: I didn't read the entire thread. OP made me laugh ...trying WAY too hard here

We could be on the cusp of a really fun thread here, but I feel sad for the mods in anticipation.

Ha - but would it be more like 'thud, thud, thud' since it's carbon?

I think that Chorus BB is holding the trek together— be careful when servicing.

Personally? Why not get both and build a tandem— a great way to strengthen family bonds.

I prefer the giant. Looks like a decent lugged frame. However, as many others have pointed out, for the price it will cost to build it up to a complete bike you could probably get something a more exciting. That being said, I have paid more for less, and if you don’t care about getting your investment back down the line it could still be good fun and you always learn a bit from building up a bike

Agree and the if the BB glued / screwed fitting failed then needed repair then there is a chance others will repeat. BTW: Does not look like a professional repair.

He put "professionally" in quotes, so I presume he was being facetious. Which raises additional questions about his consideration of the frame!
