quadriceps tendon tear

Wifey has some form of a quadriceps tendon tear. she was able get the school nurse to walk her to her car w/ her stuff & she drove herself to the urgent care, where I met her, last night. breakfast in bed this morning & she'll need some kind of treatment in coming days & weeks. guess we're not skiing or snowshoeing this winter

Hopefully, it’s a minor damage.
Best wishes for full and relatively quick recovery.

thanks guys, seems to be minor. urgent care had good advice. she did some resting, elevation & ice & is wearing a wrap-around style velcro knee support thing & is feeling much better 3 days later. no wincing in pain. she needs a better medical professional to get an accurate diagnosis.

Absolutely, she'll prob get some PT.

It would also help to do an anti-inflammation diet, and eat fruit, esp. kiwi, pineapple and blueberries.

just circling back, she did NOT have a "quadriceps tendon tear". it was some other minor strain that recovered with some TLC

I would be interested in hearing about the treatment plan for this injury. I've been suffering with a quad strain as well.

There are two types of tendon pain. Usually it's an inflamed tendon sheath, which yields easily to NSAIDs. If taking NSAIDs don't help, then it's a tendon strain, usually at the attachment point. The only way to fix that is exercise, particularly heavy-ish low-rep work, just short of pain. Takes time. Tendons heal when they are stressed, not so much when they are rested, which is pretty much opposite what you do with an inflamed sheath. NSAIDs are diagnostic. I've had tendon strains which took 6 months to heal.
