Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll make you a deal. We work on getting a grip, you work on being nicer and more sensitive. We can meet in the middle. Have a nice day

And they thought my calling out making fun of a developmentally disabled child was virtue signalling. If that was virtue signalling, then the way these guys are jumping on you is SUPER DUPER virtue signalling.

I said < 2 minutes to provide a conservative estimate, of which half a minute is spent retrieving the broom handle, setting the clamp on my work stand to horizontal, and clamping the broom handle. And theoretically I suppose I do not need to do both sides of the chain as long as I got the chain orientation correct. So I guess I can get it down to 30 seconds?

Congratulations!

Regarding cycling, both my wife and I failed to teach my son how to ride a bike, even though her friend accomplished that in an hour a few months later. It is humbling to be a parent.

Thanks! A balance bike is in the future for sure when she reaches toddler age. For now, mom has brought her down several times when I'm on the trainer to let her check things out Complete with waxed chain!

Yes, get them exposed to waxing at an early age. If I didn't mention it earlier, Congrats.

But a balance bike has no drivetrain to wax.

I've tried everything. Only immersive waxing can bring together clean chain and quiet drivetrain.

speaking of this, I wax the kids bike chains, no greasy hands when they happen to grab or touch the chains on their bikes or mine

I wonder if preference for waxing varies by the region/country where one lives.

+1. I guess submerging your chain in regular lube would do a good job too in terms of noise and mechanical efficiency, but it wouldn't solve the dirt attraction problem.

I've always wondered how much lube is actually going inside the rollers when you use the conventional lubricating method which is to put one drop on each rollers while back pedaling. I'm sure you waste a lot.

That's brilliant. The wax would last a lot longer on kid's bikes too I assume as they likely don't ride as far or hard.

What are Your experiences with campagnolo 11s or 12s chains immersive waxing ?
Are these chains teflon coated ? Does teflon affects waxing ?
My campagnolo record 9s chain was still loud and vibrafting after immersive waxing... in contrast to shimano chains.

That makes me wonder if or how you cleaned it before wax treatment. I've wondered if taking a new chain with the factory goo on it and just dropping it into a pot of super heated wax and leaving it for an hour would displace the goo enough for the wax to get into all the rollers and pins. I might try that with my next new chain. If it doesn't work, I can always clean it and start over.

I've heard you can do that, I have not tried it so can't say anything to the contrary. I figure a single soak in mineral spirits makes a new chain ready to go fairly quickly. It's minimal extra effort for a known good result. However, IF it doesn't work you be stripping the wax, then soaking the chain in solvent, and possibly dealing with contaminated wax. So I clean my new chains first.

I always clean the chain shaking 2 or 3 times in mineral spirit - gasoline extraction.
