Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They must have cleaned that up. Didn’t see any when we were there in 2016.

Train driver has a duty independent of the lights working/not working.

I believe they did many years ago. They also finally got rid of Chuck Norris’ body.

It's a contributory negligence issue. The article said they tried to stop the train, but didn't know of the truck on the track early enough to stop the train.

Lack of sparks don't mean brakes were not engaged.

I looked up the story, and found the crossing where this occurred (probably) . This is from the other side of the crossing. The sign is especially poignant.

the horn is just your last warning. it means the train driver has seen you but if you don't move it's too late. he's not stopping before he hits you, even if he slams on the emergency brakes.

The sheer ugliness of the gear has put me off, that and the reputed horribility of servicing their hydro brakes.

Even 700 years before, the basic raised, ramped oval around the central area had already been worked out by the Greeks. But the Romans went BIG!
