Show me your bike with chrome socks
Looking for inspiration as I decide whether to keep and build up this frame for a new commuter. Let’s see em!

my '74 Raleigh International, in the flamboyant copper paint scheme...
Half-chromed forks and stays seemed to be quite common in the early and mid 70's, and then faded away at the end of that decade. To some degree, fully chromed forks and stays appeared, apparently based on the hypothesis that more chrome is better. There was also the trend to get rid of chrome, with the possible exception of the right chainstay, to avoid paint chips due to chain slap.
When exactly did half-chromed stays and forks appear? It was before I became aware of 10 speeds in the early 70's.

I've had my Legnano since new in '64. I love the chrome, though it is pitted a little, now. The Raleigh Super Course was found in a trash pile of scrap metal. The ugly green spray paint saved the rear chrome stays. I needed to find an NOS chrome fork to restore the front. Why would you not want chrome socks?
'73 Super Course as found.
After restoration and paint, non stock color, Toyota Spruce Mica.
One of my favorite rides.

By the way, are there any "standards" for the height of chrome on forks and stays?

Gold bikes with and without. '78 Peogeot PR10, chrome fork tips. Partial build '78 Super Course, no chrome. I vote for chrome, but I love the gold.
