105 Di2 2x22 upgrade
Anyone else considering a Shimano 105 8150 Di2 2x22 upgrade on an older disc brake gravel bike?
https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/infor...eless-per.html
I like the gearing options that an 11-36 twelve speed cassette offers. So I'm considering the latest 105 groupset for my Fuji gravelbike that currently has a 2x10 drivetrain with mechanical disc brakes. An upgrade to hydraulic doscs and Di2 along with the gearing upgrade will be hard to resist this winter.
Anyone planning a similar conversion?

I'd love to but can we even buy this groupset yet?
Also, curious why you'd want this over Rival AXS which is quite a bit cheaper?

I'll take a hard look at the Rival AXS. I have 2x11 Red eTap on my rim brake road bike and definitely like it.

Not for gravel…
Lack of a clutch for the 105 RD is simply enough to keep me away. GRX Di2 2x11 with a 46-30 crank and 11-32 cassette gets nearly the same low gear (~26 gi, the difference being the GRX is about .25 gi lower) while only giving away 10 gi on the high end (which would only be noticeable on a fast group ride on pavement going downhill above a 5% grade, I’d estimate).
That said, 105 Di2 looks very promising, and if you want it, go for it. The 11-36 cassette definitely offers tighter gear spacing at the high end which is certainly appealing.

I didn't see that 105 doesn't have a clutch, that hurts.

I would wait for GRX 2.0 personally, but both groupsets will be equally unavailable for purchase.
Having said that, the Rival eTap 1x and 2x drivetrains are both right on the money as far as gearing and choices go. Interestingly, if you are a super nerd that cares about optimum gearing and drivetrain efficiency, it looks to me like the SRAM (non-XPLR) setup with a 46/33 crank + 10-36 cassette is ideal for most riders, and the 48/35 would be good for very fast riders. Pricing is also better than Shimano, particularly with a power meter. Kind of annoying because I have always been a Shimano person since it just works and keeps working, but unless GRX 2.0 is wowzers amazing or 105 comes with a smaller crank option, it will probably be SRAM next for me.

I agree with Zen on waiting for GRX 2.0
Given the difficulty getting parts, I'd be surprised if you could even find a non-OEM 105 Di2 build kit before 2023. Although, when GRX 2.0 gets announced + released, it'll probably be mid-to-late 2023 availability as well.
I suspect the new GRX will feature the trickle down tech coupled with the wireless shifters and new caliper design. I would be surprised if they don't continue with the same gearing sets, only thing I could see would be bringing the 46/30 to the -800 level versus only being available at the -600/-400 level.

Gearing? Maybe, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
