Hi there!

I found an abandoned Rossin a couple years ago. I only recently found out it's a somewhat rare bike and would like to know more about it! I'd love to get folks help determining the year, model, etc. I just joined the forum so unfortunately I can't post pictures until I've done 10 posts. So maybe we can chat a bit so I can get past this limitation. Help much appreciated!

Nice, early model from the 80's made from Columbus SL tubes, but the decals look "too good" or "like new" to say so....

from the catalogs P!N20 linked you, you need the "Rossin" one not the "Rossin 88". You will see, that besides the "Special" frames (chromed lugs and nicer fork) the difference between the models are only in the components, like Super Record and Record - lower end models ran under the Erreghi brand then.

The subject bicycle appears to have a 1978-1987 Columbus SL/SP tubing decal. It's small enough that I'd expect SL or maybe a mix. The Columbus SL/SP model was typically called the Record. Based on the older graphics, and the lack of a front derailleur hanger, I'm going to place it in the earlier portion of this time period. A drive side photo would be a better aid.

It's obviously a frankenbike in non-OEM condition or was built from a frameset, as I'm seeing a mix of parts. The headset is definitely Shimano while the crankset and shift levers are Campagnolo. The brakeset appears to be Dia-Compe. Again, a driveside photo would be better for component identification, particularly the drivetrain components.

The Rossin brand was established in 1974, after framebuilder Mario Rossin left Colnago. The move was instigated by Ernesto Colnago's poaching of rising amateur star Gianbattista Baronchelli who had won the two biggest amateur races of 1973, the Giro Ciclistico and the Tour de l'Avenir (which are basically amateur versions of the Girio d'Italia and Tour de France). Baronchelli (and his brother, Gaetano) had been ridng for Vittorio Ghezzi's Iclas amateur team and he planned to build a pro team around the brothers, using Colnago as ther bicycle sponsor. However, Colnago arranged for the brothers to sign with the SCIC team, which he already sponsored. In response (and probably retaliation) Ghezzi and some partners signed and set up Rossin in a new company to build the bicycles for their pro team.

Looks like early 1980's Rossin Record. My wife used to ride one--we found the frame at a shop.that sponsored a womens' team and always had lots of small high quality frames in stock.

1982-83 maybe? I’ve never seen an anthracite colored one like that. Has the embossed stay caps. Decals don’t have the echo stripes on either side. Head tube and fork crown with the pentagon R...I imagine an R cut out on the BB.

You will love it regardless.

Looks clean, and original paint/chrome. It also looks like the derailleurs are Suntour Cyclone and the rear in particular has an issue (the jockey wheel cage seems to be out of normal phase). I think this particular model was called "Record" and the decals on the chain stays should reflect that model name.

Early 80s going by the frame details and decals. A beautiful score.

You can see the Record decal on the chainstay. Nice looking frameset. I’ve always wanted a Rossin Record and when they were a more under the radar brand, I couldn’t find one in my size. They seem to always have pretty high asking prices now - relatively speaking to similar good quality frames from the era.

You might want to tilt the bars up a bit to give you a more natural grip... you can probably raise the stem a bit to give you more comfort as well if you need to.

Did you get the bike disassembled? The cable routing issue seems like a mere wrong twist on the handlebar before putting it in place. Other than that really nice, the tape/cable housing/bottle cage colors are personal preference (and yeat, they reflect the Rossin colors), but please, find the height you need and get rid of the supermarket seat post quick release in favor of a proper binder bolt... or not if you like this way

It has the Portacatena rear dropout which, in conjuction with the absence of front derailleur hanger and the older style graphics, confirms pre-1983. The 1st generation Cyclone derailleurs, if OEM, would move that back another year, but I doubt they're OEM.
