Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which manufacturers produce high-end aluminum frames w/ carbon stays and fork?

Having test ridden a lot of alum/carbon frames, I would say that the difference is not very noticable. The type of fork also makes a big difference in the final quality of the ride.

I don't know what classifies it as a "high end" frame, but I would say the frame on my new Trek 2100 is pretty damn good and it is AL w/ carbon stays and fork.

Add BMC Road Racer to the list, which has Easton carbon stay and EC70 fork. The frame is rather rigid that can transfer all your pedaling power to speed but still feeling comfortable to ride.

Go custom Scandium (maybe Easton)... Find a local maker, and get him to build you the stiffest SPRINTING machine known in the land...

I wouldn't be too hung up on getting a carbon rear. Ask Bikewise1; he knows all about them

anecdote to follow: n=6

I'm not a huge fan of carbon rears. I test rode three 2nd hand ones at the local 2nd hand shop a couple years ago, and they all creaked like crap! I've since seen the guys at the shop trying to rectify the creaking in 2 or 3 more bikes since.

As far as weight goes, a friend of mine bought a 57cm scandium De Rosa with a Deda carbon rear which is only 110g lighter than my 58cm aluminium Soloist -- and the De Rosa is flexier!

It is mostly marketing. And if you jam your chain into carbon stays (and it happens) you stand a good chance of trashing the frame.

No offense to the legions of happy carbon owners out there, but aluminum makes a better racing bike. Particularly when you get into the "scandiums"... (just a fancy new way to say aluminum with added alloys)

Teams racing carbon (with the exception of Pinarello sponsored teams riding the magnesium Dogma) is one of the few examples of what's hot with the public dictating what the pros use... usually this is completely reversed.

I tested I think 9 different alu-carbons before I bought mine.

But yeah, the answer is, most.
