I've seen this article before.

The interesting thing is that the history of 753 may stretch back to 30's and 40's in one form or another. Reynolds was offering quenched and tempered 531 in the 40's, with the exact same 75 ton UTS as 70's 753 (later versions of 753 were harder). Metric 3/10 (really 0.38mm) 531 was available since the late 30's. O'Donovan previously worked with titanium frames, but moved to steel because of the lack of fittings for oversize tubes and the compromises required to make it work, like a teledyne, which makes the use of metric sized tubes curious unless he was working with already existing tooling.

Of course high tech rocket casings sounds better.

Bikes: too many sparkly Italians, some sweet Americans and a couple interesting Japanese

I love this article as he clearly states "Accuracy of fabrication results in a frame that when placed on a checking table is true without the need for setting to shape." I mourn the scrapping of 753 frames do to extrapolating that finding out to 753 can not be cold set, which still persists to this day. I tried to straighten the fork on my first 753 and it would spring back as soon as I mounted. Our local "senior" framebuilder with 753 experience got it and the tweaked frame perfect. They are lovely frames, that in my experience ride as well as 531 but are noticeably lighter.

Is there a “Show me your 753 bike” thread somewhere - not coming up with anything.
