Here I thought the diff was Campy vs Shimano/SRAM, though I guess in some hubs you need a 1mm spacer for Shimano cassette (besides the 8-9-10 1.85mm one on 11 spd)?
Also doesn't DT Swiss offer a budget 3-pawl hub and a higher end "ratchet drive" one?

This thread keeps causing it to be confused between cassettes and freehubs. Cassettes have a handful standards; freehub mounting in hubs is not and should not be a standard. The difference in freehubs is the difference between hub technology. If freehubs were all the same, then there would be no reason to buy anything but the cheapest hub.

Your SRAM bike has DT Swiss hubs with a SRAM cassette. If you had gone with DT Swiss hubs and a Shimano cassette, you still would have been able to remove the cassette/freehub by hand because that is a design characteristic of the DT Swiss hub; it has nothing to do with the brand of cassette. Of all my bikes and wheelsets, only my DT Swiss freehub can be removed by hand. The other wheels I have to first remove the cassette from the freehub body, and then depending on the design, can remove the freehub body.
Your first step in removing the cassette from the freehub body is correct. My next guess is that you will need a 10, 11 or 12mm allen key that fits in the freehub body, and possibly a bench vise to remove the freehub body.
