Fenders on my fixie

I am looking for some full coverage fenders to put on my 06 Windsor fixed gear frame. I don't like the clip-ons as the last one I had broke after a couple times. I had a bridgestone that was set up for touring and I used Planet Bike Hardcore Fenders 700c on them. Right now I'm looking at the SKS P35 Fenders 700c fenders. I know they should be a close fit, but I don't know how to know that these fenders will fit my bike. I have a front brake on my bike as well. Will I need long reach callipers now? Any suggestions?

Take your bike into the closest bike shop, they will look at it and tell you everything you need to know. For now I don't think you should have a problem. Many front fenders are built for road bikes and will fit just fine under a normal brake. I am running the Planet Bikes fenders right now and I have a normal brake. I'm assuming you have the rack mounts on your bike, but there are always ways around that so long as you love zipties.

Those planetbike fenders are awesome, I have them on my bike and have not had one problem, and it has been pretty rainy here so far this year

I like those wooden ones that have the same sort of attachment at the ones in the pic above. There was a thread a while ago on them, but I forget what it was.

ok. please excuse my noob status,
but how effective are these raceblades?
i mean...
are you really staying dry? all over?
i really want to get a set, but i'm wondering how much they really protect.

rivercity bikes does custom ones i think, crazy expensive though

and, mattfashion, they work. well, i assume raceblades work as well as the planet bike ones. rear keeps your back dry and front keeps your feet dry. obviously if its actively raining you won't be completely dry, but fenders do make a world of difference

I had those PB Speedez and due to the toe overlap, I managed to push the bottom into the spokes causing the fender to fold in half and get caught between the fork and wheel. It wouldn't fit right afterward so I put PB Freddy fenders on instead. Still have toe overlap and I managed to do the same thing to them, but not as bad. If you don't get your toes caught in them, they work fine.

i just picked up the planet bike fenders and the back one works really really well and the front works so so. my feet get wet still but its a lot better than running no fenders at all.

Yeah, they say $150 installed. That includes SKS fenders, all the mounting hardware, and labor. All the mechanics I've talked to say they are a major PitA to do. So, if someone is thinking of DIYing them, keep lots of beer on hand.

The clip-on fender variety (RaceBlade, SpeedEZ, etc) still send a lot of gunk to your bottom bracket area. That's just something you have to live with if you're going to go that route. You can keep a lot of the spray off your feet if you fit on a front flap. Flaps are just good courtesy if you're going to be riding in a group, anyway.

One thing to be careful of when running a fork with tight clearance is that you don't get a rock or something wedged in between the crown and your tire. Crap will stick to your wet tire and ride along for a while. Expect a catastrophic failure of your tire casing, if that is the case. My roadie has a tight clearance on the rear brake bridge, and that caused two major rips in my casing this spring. Some people run 700x20 to mitigate this.

I got Berthoud fenders from Peter White Cyles. The stainless steel style are more Rivendell than NJS, but I like them and I stay pretty dry.

Thanks y'all. I found some of the cheapest fenders here:

https://www.biketiresdirect.com/searc...lts.asp?cat=fe.

Hopefully the city stays dry 'til I get them. Now I'm diggin' on the defeet wool arm warmers and gloves. Wool seems to be the way to go.
