I currently have the KK and am using it with trainer road daily. Perfectly happy with it. I know the Kickr has erg mode, which is a plus. Any opinions re: whether it is worth the $ to sell the KK and get the Kickr.

I just switched from the KK to Kickr,
Kickr is a nice trainer, only downside for me was the noice level that is equals to the KK and that you need a Iphone/Ipad to update the trainer.
Other than that solid trainer and really future proof, supported in a lot of software already.
I gave my old KK to my family as gift

What matters is turning the pedals against resistance.

Everything else is entertainment.

I love the kickr... use it all the time with trainer road.

limitation I've found is for sprinting you need to play around a bit with the resistance to find the right level

but it is amazing for cranking out long intervals at X watts

I agree but entertainment is important because using a trainer is so boring I have to force myself to do it.

I saw an in person demo of the wahoo last night. Made the computrainer into a boat anchor real quick. Heckuva flywheel on that thing.

computrainer is a dinosaur. My wife has one, and i have a kicker. use them both on trainer road, and the kicker is way nicer to deal with. Calibration, is the main sticking point for me. takes her awhile to get setup before each workout.

The current batch of kickrs appear to have a calbration issue however,
Mine included. The stated erg power is 20-30watts over stated,
Ie the resistance is lower than what it is tellng you.
This is well documented on the slowtwitch forums by many with power meters on their bikes.

Yeah, that forum, the Wattage, Zwift and various other sites mention the problem. What bothers me about it is that Wahoo has known about it for quite some time now and pretend that this issue (and the drifting one) does not exists. Well, they are just being too hush about it.

If you have a non-wheel power meter then you will be able to do the belt retensioning fudge where you
basically tighten the belt to give back the resistance it is not measuring correctly.

I am lucky to have a quarq so I can do that.

I saw a few odd reports on Slowtwitch a year ago, but nothing really credible in my mind, and I just chalked it up to the kind of senseless chatter you find everywhere on the internet. Credible sources, like DCRainmaker, who is also a participant on SLowtwitch, hasn't seen this issue, nor have most of the KICKR users, so all that, and given the rabidity of the few with complaints, the "issue" seems not to be an issue at all.

I'm not saying some have not had problems, but I have not seen anything along the lines of what I'd describe as "common," "well-known," or "well-documented," but I don't follow the topic closely, so if anyone has any links to share, like the Wattage site mentioned above, I'd appreciate it.

DCRainmaker has acknowledged the issue this year on slowtwitch.

It is well documented enough to be called "common" on slowtwitch as those are the guys who tend to have power meters from before.

Indeed, it is more common than most would believe. Even on DCR's site, you'll see complaints there in the comments. I was considering purchasing a Kickr at one time. Did a LOT of searching around and did not like what I found.

in 2013... that one had something go wrong that made it nearly impossible to use. Replaced by Wahoo in Jan 14' This one has been perfect... after reading about the issues, I actually purchased the calibration kit as well. Long ago they let the user adjust the slope of the unit, but they took that feature away. I used to compare it my other power meters ( stages and Vector) but it's always pretty darn close... usually slightly lowering which makes sense given the location of the other 2.

Was the slope adjusted by the user using the wahoo iphone software ?

It would be great if they could sort out their problems as the unit has a very nice road feel and takes up less space with the wheel off.
If they don't it is only a matter of time before somebody else comes and eats their lunch with a cheaper and better working unit.
