Continental tires real life widths
I tried GP 5000 and 4 season both in 32x622 and I find GP 5000 in reality look ~2mm narrower than 4 season, which I didnt really like.
Anybody tried Gatorskin in 32x622? I am wondering how does the width compare?

That's normal. The GP5k are known to be truer to the stated width than the 4ks on the same/suitable rims and these other models may still be using the previous sizing. About 2mm is the usual observation for this size change from memory.

What is the inside width of your rim used for the measurements and pressure? Rim width is more important. I have GP5000 tube tires. They measure wider on rims 19mm wide inside or wider for 25mm and up tire size. Then to make it more confusing Continental made some changes to narrow the installed tire a few years ago. Last with age they get wider.
Edit. Found some older data on 19mm inside Bontrager Aeolus 5 rim brake.
Conti 5000 25 mm 85 & 67 psi 27.4 mm 19 mm
Conti 5000 28 mm 87 psi 29.0 mm 19 mm
Edit. Just got a new Conti GP5000 and mounted on 23mm inside width Aeolus Pro 51s. At 75 psi with latex tubes they are 29.5mm wide. We will see how they stretch. The old 28mm GP5000 was 31mm when I took it off. It’s in the 19mm rim for trainer duties and is 29.4mm wide at 80 psig.

25 mm tan/cream wall GP 5000 on Omega 19 rims @ 100 psi are just over 23 mm
32 mm GP4S on Maddux DC 3.0 @ 80 psi are 32 mm

I find tire with is entirely dependent on rim width. My Conti Grand Prix 4 Season 28mm's are 32mm on a 23mm wide rim. My 25mm 5000's on my carbon road bike are 24mm on a 19mm wide rim.

I still think gp 5000 are narrower when I look them in my hands side to side regardless of the rim.

It used to be that the gp4k and gp4s models ran wider than the label when mounted to modern wide rims. Continental recognized this and made the new gp5k narrower to compensate for modern wide rims. Not sure about the newer gp4s.

I just mounted up a brand new GP5000 700x32 tire onto the front wheel of my bike (DT Swiss rim, 20mm internal width) and it measure 31mm @ 65psi. The tire has not been ridden on yet.
On the rear wheel of the bike is a GP5000 700x32 tire that has been ridden a little more than 1500 miles. Same rim as the front. It measures 33mm @ 65psi.

Does it matter as long as they fit your bike? You either like how they ride or you don't. Of course rim width changes tire width a little. The difference in ride quality between a 5000 and a Gatorskin is a heckuva lot larger than any measurement of precise tire width.

When I was running GP4000 the 700x23 also measured 27.5mm on the same wheel at the same pressure.

Just installed GP5000 on my rims (replacing the same size Gatorskins).
With the Gatorskins, I had to deflate the tires to get the tire past the brake pads.
With the GP5000, I did NOT have to deflate the tires to get the tire past the brake pads - so it appears the GP5000's are a bit narrower.

For a meaningless data point - the Giro Continental 22c tubulars measure 22.7mm after about a month of inflation at ~100psi. (Tubbies - rim width doesn't matter to tire width at all. Mavic GEL330s for those who care.)

Yeah the "hack" ten years ago was that you could mount a 25mm Conti to a "wide" 23mm (outer width) rim, and get a nice cushy balloon of 26-27mm. But now Conti has gone back and resized their tires so that they mount truer to size on wide rims. So now if I get a 25mm Conti tire and put it on an old narrow 20mm (outer) rim it might come out to 23-24mm actual width.

Between Conti introducing the GP4K and the GP5K, the ETRTO changed the standards for expected rim internal width for the various nominal tire widths, based on the trend that people are running wider rims. Conti made some adjustments, and so the 5K expects a wider rim and runs narrower on narrow rims.

Thats good to know. I just had to replace my rear tire so since the front was not tubeless went with latex tubes. I knew latex lost air quicker than butyl but I’m not sure I’ll like how much they lose over 4 or 5 hours. Tubeless sealant is somewhat of a hassle. Not hard but I fear having to put a tube in. So I’m still on the fence for tubeless next tire change.

No hassle with sealant - use valves with removable cores. Easy to refill if needed.
If for some reason you get a flat use a kit with the darts. Forget about tubes entirely- that’s now outdated, as tubeless has reached the point of advancement where it’s just a better solution.

I went tubeless on the 35mm GR1 mounted to the OEM wheels (37mm measured) . Did this to run lower pressure, try tubeless and hope they self seal holes. Next time around going tubeless for the road wheels.

I've started a chart that measures a tires bead-to-bead width when laid or pressed flat (non-mounted, of course) to give me a better idea of how wide a tire will be on a certain rim (Open Pro, DA C24, DT Swiss R23, etc), listing pressures as well. Older Continentals seem to be more generous, and newer ones a little 'stingy'. A GP5000 28mm cream wall measures 25mm on the nose on an Open Pro. A GP4000 SII 28mm is 0.5mm narrower than a GP5000 32mm on a Dura-Ace C24 rim. Ultimately, this matters, at least to me, when choosing the largest tire that can fit inside a vintage rim brake or ~2010s carbon rim brake bike, especially if 9000/6800/5800 and newer brake calipers are being used. Not as generous as framesets now, especially if one's city or route is not as smooth as one would like. It's frustrating that companies don't publish overall tire width data or even say "This 28mm tire measures 28mm on a X mm internally wide rim."

'Mounted at new Conti 5000 marked 700-25 (not tubeless) on a DT Swiss 411 rim last night. 18 mm between the rim flanges and the tire measured 25.4mm wide at 100 psi.
