I got lucky again. 1983 Voyageur SP

Someone traded this bike into my LBS towards a new plastic bike. Lucky for me I stopped into the shop today and found it. The price was really good too. My size and I have wanted one of these for a long time. This is as found. Please, I know everything is not put together as it should be. Yes it will get a complete overhaul . The important things are there and the paint is in pretty great shape, a few minor scratches and light rust to some of the hardware. The decals are worn but the paint is fine. Needs a Brooks and some TLC. This will be a fun project that will bring me great joy.

Sweet! I have no doubt you're gonna turn that thing gorgeous.

(Hopefully those aren't the Superbe levers that require unobtanium Campy hoods... They look like they're not, so I've got my fingers crossed for ya.)

Thank you. I hope so. These are probably the same shape as the Superbe. I have Superbe Pro on my Prologue. I picked up these Rustines in white that fit perfectly.

I had no idea! "Formerly unobtanium" it is then!

Great catch! I would have preferred this to the bargain Nishiki Cresta that I just picked up. However, I'm sure we'll both have a great time on these bikes. If you feel like trading, let me know.

Very nice. I had a 1983 Voyageur SP for a while that I liked.

Every year of the VSP is a great bike!

Did the nifty fork crown mounting front rack come with it?

Unfortunately not. Do you happen to know if you can use 700 c with the original canti`s?

Are those the DC 960s or the Shimano 600?

Either way, my guess is no. But you can always try and be pleasantly surprised!

I did the 700c conversion on my Voyageur SP. You need this era Shimano Canti:

As found for a $100 from a co-worker "who quit biking",

Wow! That looks great! I will try and hunt those Cantie`s down. Thank you for the info. I tried to find new decals but so far I can`t seem to find the right ones. I got time. My decals are half missing.

You should be able to use the brakes you already have. Mine in the pic above has 700c wheels and I never changed brakes.

Hooray! I would really like to get either a Super Sport SP or Voyageur SP. Beautiful paint work and very well-optioned. And they're classic Schwinns from a cool (small) era (early '80s).

That's just gorgeous. Lots and lots of potential there judging by the work of our other forum members. I love the solid colour on the head tube... stands out nicely.

Lucky you!!
