The last six months have been the wettest in the UK since record began in 1890. It looks like we are now set for a dry period, looking forward to it!

Rode downtown with a friend in 44 degree temps with probably 10 mpg winds.
Took train back with bikes hanging on hooks.

20 cycling miles for the day.

Coolish but enjoyable.

Took a not-so-vintage bike I'd just finished out for a short ride today. It's a playful devil...fun bike.

Just a short but hilly ride during a football-watching break. Just over 15 miles but over 1,800’ of climbing. A cool, clear, and sunny day. Apricity is in the air in the SF Bay Area.

First stop was to check out the scene at People’s Park. A site of local importance during 60s protest movements, it’s become a rather sketchy enclave for homeless, marks, and ne’er-do-wells. Recently, people have again been protesting UC Berkeley’s plans for a housing development project on the site. They’ve barricaded the park with containers and closed access around the perimeter with a strong police presence after five protesters were arrested over the weekend.

Next I headed up Claremont Road. This is a steep climb of about 2 miles (I believe the last 1+miles averages 12-13%). In the past, when most of my road bike were set up no lower than 39x26, it was a bit too steep to be enjoyable at my level of fitness. Today, I decided to tackle it on my triplized Colnago (52-42-30x13-28, my lowest-geared road bike). What a difference.

Another view on the Claremont climb with a peek-a-boo view of SF.

Handlebar-mounted water bottle cage: check
Exposed cables: check
Cloth tape: check
Friction shifting: check
Italian steel: check
Toe clips & straps: check
Tubulars: cheek
C & V: check

I navigated my way through campus toward the end of the ride. California Hall on the left and the Campanile on the right.

This is an accidental photo taken from the inside of my Pearl Izumi jacket. I think it’s cool in a modern art kind of way, and reminds me of the art on the CDs in a Velvet Underground box set I have.

It has been really cold the past couple of weeks in Fairplay Colorado below freezing highs and below zero degree lows. First day in a week or so to get above freezing for a little bit so I took a very short ride to town.

Headed out before 0700 into a northerly building towards gale force. Accumulated two hours worth before turning around for the downwind run home and a few finishing hills for good measure and four plus in total.

Thanks curbtender I was really hoping for someone from California to post some ride photos.

Here in the Willamette valley in Oregon we've got a layer of frozen sleet and ice on top of everything. Not going anywhere till Wednesday at the soonest.

Looks like snow, but it's packed frozen sleet and freezing rain. Some people are still out driving on it too.

Just 5 miles around 3pm with afternoon high of 25 degrees for the day.

I need some winter mitts. These gloves with liners did not keep hands warm. Everything thing else was sufficiently warm with my multiple layers.

We are having an unusual week of consecutive days of 12 to 25 degree temps.
Not a fan...

We had about 3.5" of snow today, then it changed to rain, then to freezing rain, then back to snow and currently 26F. It's not supposed to get above freezing until Monday next week (and then it's supposed to rain for several days). Looks like my riding will be indoors for a while.

Nasty here, too. Same rain/snow/freezing rain scenario. 11 degrees tonight.
Looks like NEO2T time!

^^^^^^^^^^. Not quite so nasty here as we were just west of the “mixed” line, so just 3 to 4” snow. 10°f here this morning. Nice Adirondack snow now, cold and crunchy. Actually good driving/cycling snow due to good traction. But, alas, no cycling for me as I’ve finally contracted “you know what” after successful prevention for 4 years. Mild case though and I’m around the bend now unless I get a replay.

I did drive Albert (JD X540 with SB44) yesterday which cleared the driveway nicely. A beast, but no good for cardio. Maybe back to cycling next week.
