I shave 2x/week, thanks to the Army, as well. But i keep what I call "the horseshoe" (goatee w/o 'stache) -- grayer than the hair on my head.
On and off for decades, I've experimented with just about every look -- Elvis muttonchops, full beard, goatee, about four different versions of the 'stache, a disaster of a Fu Manchu; once into my 40's, I discovered I didn't need to try to hide the hated 'babyface' anymore. But, that was short-lived. . . started to look a little 'jowly', and brought the horseshoe out. Rather have the gray than the droop.
Can't keep the mustache -- no matter how much I scrub it, I KEEP a head cold when I have it. Took a bit to realize that. . . . . .

Ok, this is an awful picture, but it's damn hard to take a decent pic while riding..

Riders with a clean shaven face have less wind resistance than those with facial hair. How many tour riders do you see with facial hair?

Goatee here. My hair has migrated from the top of my head to the bottom. We. will. not. speak. of. the. hairnet.

Same here, but started in 1971 and never have shaved it off.

I voted goatee but only in the winter months. Only small stash otherwise. I'm a bear besides that and hate it. I would trade for no hair anywheres at any time now. It only comes in handy in winter when a layer of fur helps keep me warm.

Clean shaven, 'cause that's where all the grey went.

Experiments in low-cost ventilated insect barrier protection, using items found around the house. If it were black, it wouldn't look so ridiculous. However, I find that looking ridiculous is a low price to pay to keep those %#$@*& stinging insects off of my naked scalp.

I broke a spoke, and my wheel has only just been redone. I've been too embarrassed to wear it on the suburban riding I've done so far. I'll let you know after Saturday, if the thunderstorms leave the Katy Trail ride alone, hopefully.

Clean shaven, as in the avatar. My facial hair, what little there would be, comes instrangely burnished - like Robert Redford. The resemblance ends there...
