I'm gonna guess he's putting together 12sp freehubs and triple cranksets, which is silly because the 10-11-12 sp setups largely negate the need for a triple.

With electronic shifting, cadence and speed sensors, heart rate monitors and bike computers, shouldn't automatic shifting be a thing by now? Imagine what great arguments that would come from that.

i.e., he's confused about the essential fact of his whole rant.

  1. The new drivetrains feature Free Shift and Auto Shift technologies, where the bike can change gear while coasting and automatically select gears for you

still only 19 physical “gears.” all the cool kids are riding 1x35, for a total of 36 physical cogs. 53t up front, 10-53 in the back in 35 mostly-1t steps.

That seems e-bike specific. AOSTIRMOTORS posts made me swear off of e-bikes. I'll go directly to recumbents when the time comes and make claims that diamond frames are rubbish.

But now there is only a max of 12 gears, wouldnt 15 or 18 give a rider a better selection of gears with small steps between them.?

Weren't you just complaining about 36-gear bikes? Now the max is 12? Do you even read what you're posting?

Wait, I thought there are bikes with 36 (and even more!) gears. Now we're down to 12?

So you can recognize one of the benefits of having more gears, but you still rant against it?

I'm STILL waiting to see this bike with 36 (or more!) gears. Please show us, rydabent . Pretty please.

If I don't see this bike pretty soon, I'm gonna start thinking that you are just making stuff up.

now we’re up to MORE than 36!

9 speed da cassette - 180g ish
12 speed da cassette - 222g

now i know why i’m so slow - those three extra cogs and their 40g of rotational mass are slowing me down! of course, the chain is 30g lighter …. but let’s not get too realistic about this!

It says 9 speed cassette. But it has an 8, 9, 10, freehub. We all know mountain 11 fits on the same freehub. What some people might not know is there is a non-XD 12 speed SRAM & Shimano non-microspline that also fits.

Boom! 🤯 36 that looks like a 1x.

https://www.sturmey-archer.com/en/pr.../cs-rk3-silver

Mine only has 33. 🥺

With all that electronic junk, all the batteries would weigh 5 pounds. The weight weenies would have a problem with that.

surprisingly, the new di2 battery (which handles shifting, wireless communications, etc and wouldn’t need to be any bigger for an “automatic” drivetrain) only weighs 53g!

all you’d need to add is a speed sensor and it would just be software at that point.

All those batteries are already there. I think everyone is right, you are just on BF to derive some thrill from stirring the pot.
