All my vintage bikes are dura ace equipped: 7400, 7700 and 7800 with c24 or ea90slx wheels.
i got 10 bikes...
on average, 400 for the dura ace group, 300 for the wheels.... plus the cost of the whole bike wich gets parted out....

a lot of cash, mind you its in CAN dollars so i dont feel as guilty, right..

Capped at 400 except for my spouse’s Rivendell Atlantis that was on blowout sale in 2008 when economy crashed. Then this year a King of Mercia found me. A whole bike for far less than a new frame alone.

Glad you're keeping this one. Seemed like one that would be hard to part with.

What, this little old thing?

It’s a 2008 with JCW kit that’s been highly modified way beyond JCW specs. Definitely a fun car and very practical.

I could hear the supercharger whistle like a tea kettle when I accelerated . A lot of fun .....until my ticket ..... GOOD FEELING GONE!

I bought a 76 Trek TX900 frame and fork only because that was the way Trek sold them back then, then I had set up with Nuovo Record, then little less than a year after I bought it I sold it because girls thought I was weird because I paid more for my bike than my car! So I sold both and got a nicer car. Bought the bike from Open Air bicycles in Santa Barbara California, they put it on consignment, but I met the buyer. I often wondered whatever happened to that bike over the millenium!

I thought the bike had a tad too much flex in it though, but that was in 1976 and most frames were that way.

It was just one ticket! Not that big of a deal, depending on where you live you might have been able to go to traffic school and get it off the record, and insurance companies don't care about 1 ticket. When I use to live in California we were able to go to traffic school once every 3 years, so the first ticket I would get I would not go to traffic school because ins companies don't care, but if I by chance got a second one in 3 years than I would go to traffic school on that ticket to keep the ticket number down to 1 in 3 years. Radar detectors help out a lot, but I'm not going to stop having fun just because of a ticket. What's great is now that I'm 70 if I'm speeding and get pulled over they look at me and tell me to take it easy and give me a warning!

Yea , I'm 69 and that darn ticket cost me $500 by the time I paid for the ticket, traffic school and the state tacked on an additional fee for the ability to take traffic school . I was going 62 in a 50 zone on a straight country road with no houses or anything . I couldn't believe he wrote the ticket. If I had been going 65 , the ticket would be a tier 2 . CHP was hiding in the shade of a tree.
I could've bought the second most expensive vintage bike to add to my collection.

I've known a couple of cops that would "miss" a good ticket stop, going the other way, not on the radar gun, had someone else stopped, etc, etc.

The next one they saw got hammered, some times just the next speeder, sometimes the next same/similar car they could nail.

It is a tie between these two for most expensive bike since I paid the same amount for each of them. I bought them for a very good price. I sold the Colnago yesterday.

At 69, a speeding ticket or fender bender can get us cancelled, which could really suck.

I try not to speed in the city but once I get out in the country, there are some nice twisty roads with straight stretches between where things can get very fun. About 7 years ago, I had it out in the middle of nowhere in west Texas and got it up to 140mph. The front end got very light. I fixed that with this and then it was planted. Until a big porcupine out near Dripping Springs took it out one dark night. That’s ok, I don’t need to be going that fast.

Ok, you live in California, no wonder. California is hard up for money so they'll write you a ticket without blinking, which is why the cost of a speeding ticket for doing less than 20 over plus the school went from $125 to $500, that's insanity, it probably would have been cheaper if you hadn't gone to traffic school and just paid the dang ticket. Calif about 10 years before I moved just started the program where you had to pay the ticket and the cost to go to driving school, but the pts wouldn't show up unless you got another ticket within 3 years than the pts from the first and second one all appear at once. Because of that is why I said I would never go to traffic school and the first ticket, wait and see if you get a second one within 3 years of the first, then go to traffic school on that one to eliminate the 2nd set of pts. Chance are you wouldn't get a 2nd ticket in 3 years, so you win the game except for the fine for the ticket, but that would still be cheaper than paying for the school on top of that. California is a scam state.

A couple of years ago, I got dinged for going 59 in a 45 (out in the middle of nowhere), but since this is North Dakota, I was assessed 1 point on my license, but wasn't reported to insurance-- anything less than 15 mph over is 1 point and no report to insurance company. Oh, and the fine was $1 per mph, so 14 bucks for the ticket. To be honest, I didn't know about any of those things as I hadn't had a speeding ticket in N. Dakota in over 20 years, but now I smugly go 10 or 11 over when I feel like it.

Kind of a tough question to answer. Outright or after you put money into it to get it where you want it.

Outright. NOS NIB 1972 Lejeune Champion du Monde.

72 Lejeune CdM by L Travers, on Flickr

In total: Probably a tie between this ca 1974 Masi GC:

Masi May 2022 by L Travers, on Flickr

Early 70s B. Carré shop frame (Abel Borne). Gold Simplex is not cheap.

I recall when that Lejeune was offered out of Wisconsin. About as NOS as one could hope to find. The seller was ready to sell it a la carte and CV-6 swept in and saved it from dismemberment.
