Remember to check your brake bearings?
In the middle of disassembling my Shimano BR 1050 calipers (1986 vintage) I was extremely surprised to encounter ball bearings between the two arms. Teeny, tiny miniscule little bearings. Only two made it to the floor and I managed to find them. That's a 3/16 bearing next to the carrier for reference.
If I upgrade these to ceramic, will it make me faster?

Campagnolo's more expensive groups have used ball thrust bearings on their dual pivot brakes since 1994.

At one time I had a couple of replacement Shimano brake pivot thrust bearings for sale in my shop. Not sure what ever happened to them. I ordered them (likely from QBP) after spending way too much time on my hands and knees praying the the floor god to release the fallen balls

Yikes. Glad I checked this thread before servicing my Shimano 105 and 600 Tricolor/Ultegra brakes, or the Dia Compe BRS 500 on my older Trek 5900. Never occurred to me these might contain ball bearings. Although it should have occurred to me that was why these felt smoother with a subjectively lighter pull than my other lower grade side pull brakes.
And now that I've Googled diagrams and photos provided by other folks, yup, the Dia Compe BRS 500 does indeed appear to have similar ball bearings in a retainer that is cleverly designed to trigger trypophobia.
