Some dude tried to hit me!

Some guy walked out into the street, came up to my bike, and raised his fist...

Right leg clip out.

Right shin directly to solarplexus.

Jesus CHRIST it's hard to stay on the bike like that! Lean into it oh god!

It was a ... weak ... shot. I think an actual strong shot would have toppled me off the bike. It almost did, and I didn't want to go over at 15mph.

So yeah. I've never had pedestrians try to hit me before. I'm rather certain the cars could see me... I'm rather certain that dude could see me, too. It's not like I'm invisible.

Bright enough, yes?

It seems that the OP has a history of people getting pissed off at him, he may want to reconsider his life's strategy somewhat.

Things I would pay to see. A cyclist riding by someone trying to attack them, bashing the guy's chest with their own leg (hopefully flooring him), and riding on like it was a common day activity.

In Baltimore? Possible attempted bike-jacking. Report to Nate (city bike/ped planner) in case other others have been reported in the area, if so they will send the police out.

Chuckle. At some point you have to realize that the common thread in all of your dysfunctional relationships is...you.

Scary enough too! Perhaps you frightened the pedestrian and he thought you were some sort of evil-doer.

Maybe the pedestrian was a previous recipient of one of your street-side lectures on sidewalk safety.

Are you kidding me? People steal your bike off bike racks, they don't come up on you and take your bike from you while you're riding. O_O

But yeah, Baltimore. Lombard street ... one street over to another route I used to take when I drove to the bar ... I have a big dent on my car from being on Fayette street at 2am and some guy in a parking garage came out and hit my car. He pulled out, pushed my car, then ran the red light I was waiting for; my only thought was, "What the $*%# dude? They're not shooting at you!"

After that, I started to take 83 north home, instead of driving through the city. I mean I wasn't really worried in the least (I actually laughed when the guy hit me, it was funny), but I'm not stupid; I'll avoid the bullets. Fayette street is where people go to die anyway.

There's actually a baltimore city bike/ped planner? And yet you get **** like this:

I mean this is right off a turn where the right lane is marked for shared bike traffic (whole lane, cyclists have lane priority and don't need to stay to the right). Then there's another spot of road like that, and then again to the weenie lane. Those lanes downtown are actually traffic lanes, not bus/bike lanes like this one:

Which are everywhere, too.

I mean, seriously, if they're going to do that they have to pave all the way to the curb. My wheel is riding too close to this parallel ridge that's severely affecting the handling of my bike. The road is simply too narrow there, though; should have made the right lane a shared lane. Those narrow bike lanes are just asking for injuries.

A couple years ago I was riding along with my ex and she crossed the crosswalk a few feet in front of this oblivious pedestrian. He looked at her and said, "Watch where you're going, b****!" He didn't see me riding along behind her, all swift silent deadly, or me cock my fist, and I'm pretty sure the first clue he had that he'd said something completely stupid was when that fist, with all 235 pounds of me behind it and moving at 15 MPH, connected solidly right in front of his left ear. He went down like a sack full of pregnant walruses.

It was pretty gratifying.

Glad to see that one is willing to exchange a simple verbal assault for a possible battery charge and civil suit.

Yeah I'm gonna have to go with "The guy deserved it," but there's a slight difference between self defense and punching some idiot that needed it. There's a pretty complex philosophical argument in here somewhere; less complex is "he lunged at me, so I hit him."

I think I'd avoid starting anything on a bike; sometimes people insist on pulling you into a game you have no intention of playing, but otherwise it's better avoided methinks. I'm rather disadvantaged, sitting on something that can easily be knocked over, then used to pin me...

I had a woman plant her self firmly in my "bicycles only" lane. She thought it was rude that I was honking at her and her friends to avoid injuring them.

She stood her ground and purposely waited to get hit. What a dodo!

The nice thing about riding a bike is that you're mobile.

Never had someone try to attack me, but the u-lock latch is loose, so if it ever came down to it, I guess after getting hit the first time and crashing, I could probably grab it quickly enough and turn the tables on the assailant ? I don't think the assailant should expect any mercy after getting his sucker punch in either. Don't know if any one individual or if there would be enough witnesses to pull me off of them either. I figure just swinging the u-lock hard enough at their knee cap or thigh might also be plenty to drop them in excruciating pain, incapacitate them to the point they couldn't even stand up ? After that I may take a few more free swings and then use the cell phone to call the police. Ideally that's the way it could go ?

Love it ! Wish I could've seen it. Not calling her a b****, he probably gets a pass, but since he did, he's fair game. I think at 235 lbs, I simply slam on the brakes and ask for a more polite apology for the b-word.

Normally don't respond to these troll threads, but lots of internet tough guys in here lately.

Could someone remind me what any of this has to do with A&S other than making us seem like a bunch of D'bags?
