At first I was curious.
Then I was intrigued.
Then I was impressed.
Then I was chagrined.
Then I was jealous.
Then I went through the 3 phases of anger:
Bud
Pabst
Yuengling.
Now I'm OK with it.
Best wishes on that build.

Sorry for the tease N' delay on this one. Got the DA headset on and the fork installed but was then derailed by a house project that has put everything formerly occupying the den into the lab.
And I mean everything.
Then two big boxes showed up with a Davis Phinney in one and a Frejus in the other, further complicating the space situation.
So it will be a couple of weeks before I get back to this project, but I promise it will be noteworthy!

No mention of the vintage, but I'm assuming such a momentous un-wrapping of such NOS gems could only be for a period-correct NOS or restored Botecchia frameset.
For some reason, I am having trouble imagining what a 1980's Bottechia is supposed to look like, having had only an early-70's example around here for as long as I have.
But it never hurts to take a bit of extra time to arrive at the right blend of details in a new build.
We'll be waiting.

The real question is will you be able to ride the finish product after giving up all those limbs to buy NOS parts......

Yep, very similar to that and in my opinon worth the pursuit. Bottecchia capitalized on Lemond's '89 TDF victory by making some ADR replicas at several price points. The low end ones are Cro-Mor with no chrome and top tube cable guides, the mid-level ones are SL with chrome forks and right chain stay (like mine) with top tube guides, and fancy schmancy SLX ones with chrome stays and hidden top tube guides.
Having had some bad experience with hidden top tube guides but wanting the Lemond-like experience, I've been looking for a nice SL. When this one popped up- as close to NOS as you'll ever find- I pounced. Had the original all Campy Athena 7 speed on it (the rare group with the gray finish). So I removed the flawless Athena (which is for sale, BTW) and will replace it with the DA 7400.

OK, so seven and some months later, this is finally getting together. Wheelset is virtually NOS DA7403 hubs laced to Mavic Aurora clincher anodized rims, unfortunately with aluminum nipples. Which have been breaking off. In storage. So replaced all of the nipples with new brass ones and once I get 'em trued up we'll finish this one off. Now, on to the good stuff:

You know how some bikes go together really easily? Like they just "want to be born"? That's how nicely this Bottecchia came together. Shifted perfectly first time out, everything fit properly, no issues, well, anywhere.
Was able to do a quick turn around the neighborhood this evening, and all I can say is..."Mama Mia!"
I suspect it's going to be hard to find bottle cages, however...
