Bianchi Project 7

Someone posted this on one of the fb groups I'm in. Grail bike for some people around here, I'd guess somewhere in the $4-500 range in front of the right buyer

Good thing it isn’t my size. That thing is loaded Ritchey Logic tubing, top of the line Suntour with grease guard.

With a $1200 MSRP $500+/- might be a good starting point, but it just depends on how much rust or uh “patina” it has.

snip. . .
+ 1 on this. If it were local to me, I'd do something stupid like buying it if it were my size. I have bought two bikes that are comparable at considerably less than $500 though (a '93 Bridgestone MB 1 (logic frame but mainly shimano xt parts) and a Bianchi cross bike with grease guard group and I believe a logic frame). I'm not disagreeing with the valuation particularly since this is the Pacific NW but that would be high local to me.

I didn’t think to mention this but it’s also hard to really make this stand out as a true mountain bike in a sea of hybrids.

I like this bike because it is one of the very first 29ers and today is closer to what we would think of as a gravel bike. There are three interesting bikes that are early examples of innovating away from the mountain bike towards something closer to what today are gravel bikes: (1) the Bianchi project; (2) Bridgestone XO series (not all of them but the ones with road frame geometry and 26 inch wheels); and (3) the GT Tachyon (with the weird 700D wheels). I have an XO bike and I'd pick up a Bianchi project or even the GT Tachyon if I ever saw one locally:

Don’t overlook the Volpe. Whilst not strictly a cross or gravel bike it’s original “do all” approach to cycling meant that it would be equally at home on the roads for exercise, commuting, Randonneurering or taking a short cut down a gravel road or rail trail.

Sadly mine has never seen gravel but is a fabulous comfy ride.

The same with my little Project 3, it’s seen little mountain bike time, but is a real terror on the rail trails. Surprisingly these ancient Avocet FasGrip tires do a pretty good job for “all arounding”

Agreed, these are really hybridsby virtue of the flat handlbars combined with 700C wheelsets. While they were higher end for the era, it's hard to get excited, due to the SunTour components and their incompatibility with current indexing systems. Even then, there's doesn't seem to be much of a market for vintage, high end hybrids, especially small sizes. I wouldn't be a player at anywhere near $500, let alone $400. Then again, the OP may get lucky and find a short person with a severe case of celestitus.

bikemig BTW I remember that GT Tachyon from Interbike, and tire size certainly raised a lot of eyebrows in our group. Needless to say we certainly didn’t stock any, and I don’t think I ever saw one other than here

Bianchi Grizzly 700C

I came across an eBay listing for a Bianchi grizzly 700C frameset. According to the seller, it was the predecessor to the project 7 and was only offered to dealers only. I’ll share pictures and am keen to hear from anyone who might have more info on this.
