Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question though: The shifting is a bit unsmooth. Are bikes supposed to be tuned out of the box?
Care to give details on how you came upon a NIB bike from Giant? I'd really like to report them to Giant.

It's a real Giant, but dealers are not allowed to sell bikes anywhere but their shop. People who would rather save $100 buying the same bike online as they can in their local shop are usually not...experienced... enough to correctly assemble a bike.

I know they do it, but dealer's have been stripped by Giant for doing that.

Really? I would much rather save $100 by ordering overseas and assembling it myself...and I know for a fact that I could handle the assembly. It's not a matter of experience, it's a matter of how much money you are willing to spend. For me, the "support" and "help" of a LBS isn't worth the extra money, so if I came across a NIB Giant, Trek, Jamis, w/e, I would probably jump on it.

And go crawling into the bike shop when you don't have BB tool or whatever.

Just the simple fact that you'd assemble the bike yourself means you'd probably never need the support or help of a LBS anyways.

I'd buy almost everything online if it were not for the fact that one of my best friends is part of a family bike shop business in town that has hooked me up with quite a few good deals and gives me a regular discount off sticker price.

Awesome looking Trek. I love the color schemes of the new Treks. Very classy and fast looking at the same time.

Cheers,

New/old bike added to the stable. I love Ti.

2001 Merlin Agilis. Acquired in 2002. Sold in 2005... reacquired in 2009... rebuilt and ready to ride! Pretty much done save a few little bits I wanna add. Rides as awesome as I remembered... and the SRAM stuff is great! Hope you like.

Only planned upgrades now are a new fork, KCNC Skewers, a Ti seat post collar.
