Oops. Snag. I thought the OD of recessed nuts were the same 1.0 mm. Are there thinner ones or is it just a funky frame that wants thinner.
Now whether to drill/auger/file it larger or source thinner nuts

a nut with an OD of 1.0mm would be a fitting suitable for a watch movement
in my experience all of the brake mounting bolts have worked with have had a thread of 6.0mm X 1.0
even an angry Terminator would have difficulty starting a 1.0mm OD nut on such a bolt

Haha. Oops. That SHOULD say 8.0 mm OD. I need something about 7.0mm or have to expand the hole to 8.0 mm

Weird. Same diameter. Longer bolt won’t go in, shorter with ease.

incasso brake mount holes are counterbored on their backside
a small diameter hole to accept the diameter of the nut's "sleeve" and a larger counterbore to accept the head/flange of the "nut"

yes that hole looks like it already has a bushing in it.
try putting your nut on a piece of threaded material and chuck it in your drill. Using a flat file very carefully, reduce the diameter just enough to fit.
Or, using your 5-axis Mori-Seiki machining center, turn a new part out of titanium, preferably in an exotic alloy like Ti6Al7Nb

Hey! This isn't the Huffy/Campy weight weenie thread. Besides that Ti needs a Trizac belt to form it into shape. Har! MH

That's what you get for messing with non-vintage stuff. Welcome to the March of Time, with innovations we didn't need that prevent us from doing the simplest things that used to work just fine.

problem averted...
And for sure the modern stuff is not always made to tolerances but this frame is actually pretty decently made.
