Carrying a Spare Wire Bead Tire
So I actually found a 622x40 tire today in a money changing shop of all places in Granada Nicaragua but I want to keep using the Schwalbe I have on the rear as it still handles well and the spare is not much better than a fat slick. It's a wire beaded tire though and I've only ever had folding kevlar beaded tires as spares. Can I fold the tire at all or do I need to keep it in as close to normal shape as reasonably possible? Can't mess this up it took 4 countries and more than 12 stores to find.

I've frequently had wire-bead tires shipped to me folded in thirds in order to fit in a smaller box. I've also folded tires that way in order to carry a spare inside a pannier. You twist the tire so it forms three lobes from a central point. Move two of these lobes on top of each other and the third tends to flop over on top of them as well. Finally tie the loops together with some twist ties so they don't spring apart.

used to carry my spare 26*1.95 folded in 1/3's per sheldon.
ziptied with scrap innertube padding to the front lowrider.
was careful not to pinch the bead enough to kink it.
not that should cause a problem with tubes, maybe with
tubeless, but dunno if beaded can be used that way.....

I' ve pulled in a stiff tire to a near figure 8, and packed it on the rear of my touring bike's pannier load
and used it several months into a tour, so , made it worthwhile doing..

I carried a tire folded like that, and then held together with a (very long) twist tie, in a pannier until I needed it.

I recall a book about a couple that toured around the world in the 70's that managed to get a spare tire in between the spokes of their wheels.

what features & benefits do wire bead tires offer? I know, from personal experience, why I would shy away from them if possible
