I've got a pair of 28h 55mm deep carbon pub rims in need of a set of hubs. Right now the best bargains for a decent wheelset seem to be the DT350 with the 18t star ratchet or the Shimano rs770, both are 142/100 thru axle and centerlock disc. Either is setting me back around 200.00, 182.00 for the RS770 203 for the DT350 which is about what the budget can handle. I haven't handled a DT hub in about a dozen years and then it was a dt240, never ridden, while the r770 is supposed to have the same bearing race treatment as DA and XTR, which I also have used in a dozen years, but my current m8000 XT hubs do spin along amazingly smoothly and feel as fast butt dyno wise as my White Industry hubs so I'd expect the hubs to be fast.
Any views on which would be the best of the two or a possible alternative within that price range with 28h?

I can't compare them as I'm not familiar with the Shimano hubs you mentioned. But I've used DT 350's on several wheels builds and I like them just fine. I don't know how they could be better other than I guess lighter which the higher end DT swiss hubs are.

Some people say the DT Swiss freehubs are loud, others say quiet. The reality, it depends on how much and how new the grease is in them. Bottom line, I don't think you can go wrong with the DT 350 hubs.

DT350s are the reference. You can't go wrong.

+1... With the DT350s, you'll also have the option of easily swapping out the freehub bodies, if ever needed.

I have the RS770's on two of my gravel bikes. My problem with DT hubs is the alloy freehub body can be prone to gouging. Both are good quality otherwise. Shimano are quieter, DT are noisier. Shimano have loose ball bearings, DT have cartridge bearings.
