Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In 2005 I bought a Trek 1000, rode it, and eventually sold it. After going through two other, different owners the frame, fork, and stem are back in my hands again. Given that the Trek 1000 is a better frame than the Mercier Galaxy I've been riding, I moved all my stuff over to it and this is the result. Here's the specs: 2005 Trek 1000 SL frame, Bontrager carbon fiber fork, Truvativ triple crankset, LOOK KEO pedals, Bontrager carbon fiber seat post, Specialized Riva saddle, Bontrager Select stem, Bontrager Select bars, Shimano Sora shifters/brake levers, Shimano Tiagra front and rear derailleurs, Shimano 600 brake calipers, and Alex R500 rimmed/Formula hubbed wheels with Bontrager tires. It's certainly not a top dollar bike, and there are many like it, but this one is mine.

Cutting the steerer toob shortly and trying to get my hands on a cheap Thomson stem. This is definitely the fastest bike in my stable so far, I'm liking it.

New (to me) '10 Fisher Cronus Ultimate with DA/Red drivetrain, Ultegra brakes, Specialized carbon bar and seatpost, SS Speedplays, and Fulcrum Racing 1s! Trying to decide on saddle. A lot lighter than 12 year old aluminum w/9sp. triple crank Veloce!!

Why do you have the stem slammed but not flipped? Flip it and lift it and you'll get the same position with the better appearance of a flipped stem.

Just sayin'.

That crank looks just like the Ofmega Mistral that came on my '84 Gitane Tour de France.

A slammed stem is stiffer. This Floyd Landis' old BMC:

He immediately called back and said he would take $300. I couldn't say no and now it's in my dining room. He wrote in the ad that it was like new but I took that with a grain of salt. But I was shocked when I saw it. It is actually new. Right out of a 7 year time warp. And all original. It's like it had never been ridden. I have about a mile test ride on it and I'll be getting out on it tomorrow. Did I do good?
Wish I still had my 2010 1.2, had full SRAM Force on it when I got ride of it. I really liked the classic shape of the tubes.

Agreed.

I am running flipped up and slammed on my ss cross bike and 29er.

Waiting for the right zero rise stem to come along to slam the road bike because +6 slammed puts the bars a little too high.

Now I just need some good whisky to be fast like Floyd.

You've got sensational bikes but my choice would be the Colnago hands-down. Love the very slight red accents. It breaks up the black and white theme just enough.
