Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

White shoes

I was watching the Paris Roubaix today on VS and about 98% of the riders had white shoes. Is that a "thing" with pros? Just wondering.

I have white dmt radial shoes and i swear they make me faster than my former black 5.5 sidis =P

Unfortunately my toes go numb after 20 or so miles so they will be returned to CC.com. I'm looking for new shoes again. Hopefully they'll be white again.

Pros like white saddles, white handlebar tape, and white shoes. Looks cool, as long as someone else keeps your equipment clean.

It matches their tennis shoes when they hop on the podium.

White is faster!

I try to race / drop / chase local cyclists who wear white shoes, kinda like when you race / drop / chase cyclists with deep aero wheels. You just can't help yourself sometimes.

You can make up for not having white shoes by using white shoe covers.

I believe having white shoes and socks is a European cycling tradition. It was only recently that different colors began showing up, mostly because of Lance Armstrong wearing black shoes/socks, especially since his comeback.

It doesn't matter what colors they COME in. The question is which of those colors the pros are wearing.

I don't believe in colors, just black and white. White shoes, white helmet, black shorts, white/black jerseys. Bike is all black.

^^ That's the best way to do it. Black/white is the best color combos ever! I'm trying to switch to that now with my new black/white bike.

Funny story...I also prefer the basic black and white thing. Black bike with white stripes and logos, black shorts, black and white jersey, black shoes, white socks, black helmet, black beenie. I was riding with a new group a couple of weeks ago and this guy who I do not know came up and says "So, you really like black, don't ya?" He was wearing his full multi-colored pro kit and looking at me in disapproval. I said, "Uh, I guess". Later on in the ride he pulls up beside me out of the blue and says, "What's up with the white arm warmers, didn't they come in black?" I told him that they weren't arm warmers but a base layer, and yes I do have them in black.

In the back of my mind I'm wondering why he's so concerned about the color of my clothes. Bikers are weird.
