Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

10 Supersix 2 or something else

Hi,

I need help...

I have been riding my Specialized Allez for 3 years now and finally decided to get a new bike. My budget is around $2K.

Option 1 - used 2010 supersix 2 with sram red for a little bit over $2K. It comes with no warranty, but in good shape

Option 2 - from LBS, new 2011 supersix with 105 and "not so good" wheels

I like supersix frame, but think that a lot of bikes in 2K+ price range have similar ride quality.

So, should I get 1 or 2, maybe something else or wait until 2012 models come out in Aug?

Please advice...

Personally I'd get the Supersix 2 because of the SRAM Red, but that is just me. Just make sure it is the correct fit before you buy it, don't want to get stuck with a $2k door stop.

I have the '10 supersix 2 and it is so choice.

imo... RED (or even RIVAL) > 105, better wheels > not better wheels....
make sure the used bike fits you...

done

I'd go with option 1 provided you are sure it fits and is in good shape. Sighting the same exact reasons as Ghouse.

105 components on a Supersix? Blasphemy!!!!

I will never buy a complete bike again. My approach is to get the components you want, then get a frame you also like. All parts are interchangeable mostly, except BB, but you also have adapters etc...so the pain to swap frames is minimal really and you can keep your components you love.

Then you can change frames all you want pretty much with little hassle. But this requires some mechanical aptitude, or bringing it up to your bike shop and have them do a build for you, or a partial build if you don't want to fool with certain things and pay for some other stuff at the LBS for the mechs to do.

Sounds like since you are looking at a Supersix, you won't be happy with 105...always get the best components you can afford, they are worth the money and last a long time.

Both bikes use the same frame so assuming it is in good used shape I would go with option 1 as well.
