today at the flea market
Saw a black, 70s bike w/ wright leather saddle, early dura ace brake calipers and levers, but cottered cranks and cheap looking derailleurs. Didn't take a pic.
Next to that place was a french dealer w/ an old child's bike for $90. I passed. He also had some cool bike lanterns for $90. I passed on those too.
Here's some pics:

Well, aside from the obvious (this post is worthless without pictures) I understand 'Dura-ace' was initially the name of a lower end brake set, not part of the later high end component line with the same name. Why this should be, I can only speculate; I guess Shimano, having discovered a name that was nearly unpronouncable and meant nothing to anyone, thought it best to use it in the most confusing way they could think of.

yes I almost took a pic of it, but the bike was unremarkable other than the dura ace parts and the saddle.

I think those pedals and brake levers are cool as is the threaded chain pin. I am glad I didn't see that thing. Trying to find parts for a century old bike that was made 75 miles from it's current home is hard enough. I could imagine trying to piece together a French antique of that vintage made on the other side of the planet.

The dropouts on the kids bike were the crimped tubing kind, so I thought it was low end, but I know nothing about that era or kind of bike. Would be a cool display bike though.
