Gotta give the bike a good lookin' at today.
I know that my RD needs attention, but not sure if it needs replacement - it was pinging the spokes on the largest cog, post-crash
Early in my ride, I noticed my bar tape starting to fray, and decided that it was time to re-wrap. Then the right side got tore up in the crash, anyway... so good timing?
Just got an email from Wahoo yesterday, too - they're going to give me a new set of pedals, but I need to pull the old ones off an ship 'em out, so again... good timing?
Gotta do a general look-see on the frame, make sure there's no impact damage - there was nothing obvious post-crash and I didn't notice anything the ~25 miles home, but, well, ya know.

I'm wondering how much my insurance will cover for the oral surgeon. In 1996 or 7 I had a similar tooth done by an oral surgeon and they put me under general anesthesia.
My dentist doesn't do root canals anymore, he's done several for me in years past. I think the root plus crown is like $1500?
Anyway I'm having lots of anxiety over the whole thing.

My wife was saying that my MIL needs something like some cavity work and 3 crowns and that the estimate is in the $12+14k region. No wonder the dentists all ride fancy Cervelos and/or Ti bikes.

My wife's dentist - who is now my dentist, it seems - referred me to an endodontist for the root canal, which was something like $2200, including the initial consultation but not including the crown [edit - oh, no general, just a local for the root canal]. The crown was done by my dentist and it was, again, in that $2k region. Not sure how much the insurance covered - that's my wife's area.

Any Addict home cooks care to weigh in on the following?
Received a 12" All-Clad D3 (stainless with aluminum core) skillet last week. All-Clad has a factory sale going on and I see that I can get the Copper Core 12" skillet for about ~$70 more (regular price would be something like $150 more). Jump on it for the lifetime cookware or put the skillet upgrade money towards bike crap?

Just had a new crown cemented in yesterday. Cost was less than $1k with no insurance. I thought I was getting robbed, but apparently not.
My dentist doesn't ride but does like his shooting sports..

Dentists generally make more $$$ than generalist physicians because they can charge and collect what the service is worth, rather than be in bed with the 3rd party payor system where we can only collect what the insurance agrees to pay us.

The oral surgery was the only time I ever had general in my elaborate dental history.

My Varia flew off the back of my bike today. Colonial Parkway is a pretty rough ride, but I think the Varia was being a little too dramatic. Took me forever to find the little rubber band so I could put it back on.

That's still a new set of wheels in bike money, nothing to sneeze at. Glad to hear you got it done.

I know people scoff at non-stick cooking surfaces, but we have a set of Scanpan Pro cookware, and I love it. That and my cast iron skillets.
Our "lifetime" noncoated cookware never gets used anymore.

I will say that, at the very least, I was impressed with the tech being used and felt that it somewhat justified the price tag. Friggin' hand-held wand scanners that 3D mapped my tooth, 20 minute custom crown fabrication, buzzing away in a little sci-fi box on the counter, singing UV wands (I think) for activating adhesives, etc. That's all a wee bit different from 20 years ago.

Was this on the Cervelo? You have a custom mount for the Madone, don't you? If on the Cervelo, you should get one of the hard mounts. Well worth the 15-20 bucks.

Anyone ever buy I bonds?? Apparently they give a ridiculously high 9.6% APR, but you have to sign up and buy them online. I am wondering how much of a nuisance it is to go through that.
I seem to recall Velo Vol mentioned this awhile ago, but he is on hiatus.

Still have a little more work to do up front. I don't like how the shop routed the hoses, so I'm going to reroute and shorten the hoses to tidy up the mess at the stem.
I still have to put the chain on and program the entire thing.
Unfortunately, I'm probably about 3 weeks away from riding it as we will be traveling and have other commitments for the next two weeks.

They use some really nasty tasting stuff to make the case and to cement the final into place.

I believe in using cookware until it dies. Unless new stuff would either make your life easier or make the food taste better.

From what I've seen, the Copper Core has slightly better/more uniform heat distribution (not that the D3 is bad - it's def 105 level) but the bigger difference is supposedly the responsiveness to heat - hotter or cooler - which can make delicate operations a little easier. Oh, and it looks more fancy
This skillet is def not going to be non-stick (I use carbon steel for stuff that needs to be non-stick), I want it for better fond/deglazing/sauces, etc. I haven't actually cooked in stainless for decades, but I think that I have a much better handle on heat management so problems should be minimized (knock on wood).

Slide across the border. I'm sure there are good dentists in Tijuana. My recent root canal and crown cost $200 total. Fillings are $25 apiece.

Yep, I'm pretty excited about it.
Unfortunately, life is getting in the way of ride time right now. We have dinner plans with clients tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow during the day, I'll be filming a podcast with my financial planner. Then, we are moving my kid back to school this weekend, and the following we have an out of town memorial service.

I still haven't even used the one that I received last week, otherwise I wouldn't even be debating this, so packing it up and sending it back would be a matter of two minutes.

We are not big foodies (other than we like to eat!). We rarely, if ever, make a sauce. And, neither of us is into standing over a stove for very long.
