April commuting challenge
OK, I guess let's keep this thing rolling. Dogboy started this idea and did Jan and Feb, I guess I'll do March and April. We're 1/4 way through the year already. And if one year, why not two...
The challenge, as in DogBoy's original challenges, is to set a goal to commute every day by bike. Some people allow one or two emergency/sick days. You may have to exclude certain days of the week for errands or what-have-you. It's really up to you and what you feel is achievable, but don't sell yourself short. Aim high.
There is no prize apart from pride, and no consequences for failure other than your own disappointment. This is all about setting your own goals and reaching them. And a little public bragging when you do
I credit Dogboy's challenge for getting me on the bike EVERY DAY in January and February, and 13 of 20 days in March (had some circumstances occur).
For reference:

In in. I'm 1/1 for April, 39/43 for the year. I know for certain that I wouldn't have stuck it out through January and February if it wasn't for these challenges. Great idea, even though as the weather gets warmer, I'm going to think it's silly if I don't ride.

I'll jump in on this one. I only have a short commute (1.25 miles one way) and started recently (end of January). I have 18 workdays in April, and I will shoot for 18. 1/1 right now.
My congratulations to those who do much longer commutes every day. That takes serious motivation and guts.
Great idea. It is a good way to keep motivated.
God bless!

BTW I'm 1/1 today, 52/59 for the year.
I just found out our annual company product kick-off meeting is this month, and they're holding it at a convention center 32 miles from my house. We get the day off except for the 4-hour meeting, so I'm hoping to get 60 miles in that day instead of my usual 22. I've never ridden that far before. Also I think I'll try to bring my bike inside when I get there, I don't think I trust the area.

Count me in. I am going for 620 miles this month. So far I've got about 20 miles. I am trying to convince my girlfriend and riding partner to join me. She does not realize that she is another year older and has to start the bike season as soon as possible.

I'll see what I can do. Since I just got dumped, no more rides to class on mondays or tuesdays...
So, that would put me at...16 days during the week, plus 5 work days. 21. So far, 0/21, starts tomorrow.

In my last reply to the April challenge I talked about my riding partner. As a result she got up this morning and rode her bike. Good for her! Unfortunately, I didn't ride to work so I will have to make it up tonight when I get home at 10:00 p.m. Tommorrow is another riding day.

Replaced my original Kenda 38 "comfort" tires (I'm calling them "Kenda Kraps") with Bontrager Race Lite 32's. Very smooth. Not so good on loose gravel though; I shoot rocks out the side like a gun.
Even the "cold" days aren't too bad now; 32*F in the morning, 60 in the afternoon. Thinking about getting some shades for UV protection!

I lost a couple of days in January due to sickness/mechanical failure and one in March due to a new assignment. It just doesn't pay to turn up on your first day, as a temp, in cycling gear and a liberal dose of sweat. I consider these justifiable.
Other than that I've done all days possible. Right now I've got a 13.5 mile uphill, into headwind commute to work.
Actually I need a judges decision on one day. I needed a service on the bike so rode it to the not so LBS and then subwayed to work and did the reverse in the evening. Does this count or is it cheating?

I'm looking to commute 4 out of 5 days a week. thursday is late meetings and honestly its kind of refreshing to drive, especially when you only do it once or twice a week. Turn on the music and ac.

So far I've got 8 out of 10 days. When I told my riding partner about the challenge and that I informed the world that she was not riding so got back on the bike. So far she has done about five out of the last ten days.

What a great idea! I'm 3/6 so far this month, but now that I know about the challenge, I'll work on not missing any more commutes.
