First Bike In Over Forty Years
Yep, it's been a while since that Raleigh 10 speed back in 1978. I got my license to drive and never got on one again. That is until just recently when I started walking the neighborhood to get some exercise. "Walking sucks!" I thought. "I need a bike!" But not just any ol' Chinese plastic thing in a box from Walmart. I needed an old bike with lots of chrome and polished aluminum. My local Craig's list had lots of Walmart bikes but not much else. Then I saw it. A 1971 Italvega Nuovo Record reasonably priced! SCORE. Now I'm learning all about Campagnolo this and Stronglight that and having a lot of fun riding it too. That bike will really haul the mail. I can't believe how much ground I can cover in an hour. I live in downtown Austin where there are hike and bike trails everywhere and bike lanes on many of the streets. It's like discovering a whole different world I didn't even know about. You can see pics of the Italvega in my albums. (I'm still in newbie jail.)

Welcome! Now that you’ve ridden it a bit, I hope you’re already planning the mods you’ll make and getting the itch to expand your stable. If so, you’ve come to the right place for ideas!

Your post was encouraging to me. The last bike I rode regularly was a Raleigh 10-speed that I bought in 1976. Closing in on retirement and wanted to get back into cycling, so also picked up a new ride. Went with a new Trek hardtail mtb as I cannot get comfortable on a drop bar bike and would like to be able to ride some trails. Best of luck with your bike restoration and riding!

Welcome from Colorado Springs, CO. enjoy that vintage bike, although I'd have a hard time riding it at my age and health status, I'd LOVE to have my 72/73 Olmo Italian 10 speed racer back again, ENJOY the RIDE!
Mine was bright Yellow but this was my first serious bicycle I bought and rode in 71/73, would LOVE to find one again!!

Looks like a good thread to post an early 70s Italian.
1972 Bottecchia Giro 'd Italia. The new rear tire is waiting to be glued when the old one gives out, which will be soon.
