Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hmmmmm.....I agree!

The main point of a cycling jersey are the MASSIVE pockets! Pockets are much quicker and easier to access than a saddle bag.

Don't go flame me too hard, but putting a saddle bag on a $10,000 bike is kinda like putting Wally Griswold's fully loaded roof racks on a Lamborghini!! Especially if you have a $300 sexy seat post!!

Personally I think you should all thank the OP. He's given you all a good excuse to post more vanity pics of your pimp rides (this time with saddle bag attatched)!

While I'm sure none of those type folks crash, that is what I wonder about. Of course, if the CO2 cartridge discharged in the right orifice things might get interesting......

If saddle bags on a Bike are Dorky, then Water bottles and pumps on the frame may as well be dorky too...

Seeing as I should stuff my Jersey pockets full of crap now (Tube, levers, inflator, patchkit, money, Hospital card, Club card, food, jacket...) I may as well attach what other junk to myself too. This is my New Helmet.

I see the error of my ways

You guys are hard to please... I've had that exact bag for a couple of years now, and it holds a lot of stuff (cellphone, tube, mutlitool, cleat covers). Does this look dorky?

I bummed a cellphone holster off a GAP backpack and that holds everything I need - tube, levers, patch kit, tools, chain links, and key. That holster can easily slip into either my cycling jersey or snuggly into an empty water bottle - which goes on the holder.

I use the saddlebag when I need to bust out a Powerbar picnic for those really long rides...

80cc bag here, usually only on longer rides, or rides that i know will have decent temperature fluctuations. the latter is pretty common in northern colorado.

then i can carry more munchies/arm and leg warmers/vest and what not as needed in the jersey pockets, and the tube/tool/levers go into the bag. the mini pump stays on the downtube, just above the bottle cage all the time.

I think I would feel like 'oh I just went down and everything is still nicely in my pockets'. You're making incorrect assumptions about what happens.

This is what I carry in my saddle bag
one tube
2 tire levers
Some tools
one CO2 inflator
Only reason I use a saddlebag is to be sure that at least I brought
one tube
2 tire levers
Some tools
one CO2 inflator
The rest goes in the pockets.

To keep things simple I keep the things that go with the bike (multitool, tire repair bits) in a seatbag and carry the things that I use (keys, phone, ID, snacks) in my pockets. That way I don't leave tools behind because I forgot to stuff something in my pockets, or have to pack and unpack my keys and such in the seatbag every time I ride.

...Cell phone; tube; multi-tool; Gu; I.D.; money; and a patch kit in my jerseys pockets as I waddle into the convenience store for Power Aide.

Hmmm. Does this make my butt look big?

If yall werent such FREDS youd realize tha ttire levers are for the girls that cant climb, and learn to change your tires without them. Then you'd only have to carry enough chewed buble gum to patch the hole, and since were all such absolute studs, youd be able to blow about 120 PSI into the tube with your mouth, and youd be good to go, no "dorky" seat bags.

Right On! I have multiple roadies for different rides. When I ride to work I don't always wear a cycling jersey, but I do wear a backpack with my clothes and lunch. Now I could stuff everything into the backpack, but there's a good chance I may forget to take something out if I go for a non-commuting ride. It's easier to keep everything in one bag and swap it from bike to bike. I would feel like a total idiot if I forgot something that I needed just because I wanted the be "The Cool Guy".
