1930's Raleigh Record Ace
Hi, I recently purchased a 1930's raleigh record ace frame, and im finding it hard finding parts for it, Ive so far managed to source an original crank, and headset, but my main problem is finding wheels which fit the forks and rear legs. Also i would like to find some original handle bars, they are very unique.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a place I could find items for this bicycle, i would like to have original parts, but if not, i will settle for new items if they fit, as i want to use this bike as a day to day runner.
Any help would be amazing!
Many thanks
J

Bikes that old are exceedingly difficult to find period correct parts for. There is a website called eBay that I sometimes use for finding parts for old bikes like that. Swap meets are a great place to get parts too. Those are my suggestions.

I've seen Peter's bike and it is clean as a whistle, but it is outclassed by my Norman Rapide. I hope someday to get my Lenton Tourist on the road. It's one of my winter projects, I suppose.

The axles for the dropouts are 5/16", if you must use hubs with wider axles, file the axles, not the dropouts. As far as rims go, highly polished box section 700c rims can work well.
This isn't quite the 30s models, but the general site itself is useful. https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/rra1948.html

I think that you would either choose to source original parts or use it as a daily rider, not both. A correct set of 32/40 EA1 Dunlop rims could run at least couple of hundred, quality tires are nearly impossible to find etc.
Find some appropriate parts in the fashion of the original and enjoy the ride. Hilary Stones web site is exactly the place to go.
There's lots of examples of modded club bikes around this list too.

Hilary is definately worth the look. His prices are usually below what the same item from ebay will cost you, he ships fast and is good to deal with.

For a handlebar, have you looked at the Soma 'Lauterwasser' bar? It is named after a shape that was popular in the 30's that might have come on an RRA. The shape is somewhat reminiscent of the original Lauterwasser bar as well.
