Ehhh, I wouldn't want the buttons there because I know I would constantly be pushing them on accident. Plus they're known to be crappy. I have no need to know what gear I am in, if I forgot what I'm in I'll just look down real quick.
There's cheaper and better.

Edit: but I admit that I am kind of inanely enamored with the gear indicator.

I believe Sora does, yes. My Soras are a year old and they do.
$1000?
Look at the Masi Alare ($930) or the CAAD9. I don't sell either brand, by the way, just so y'all don't think I'm being a shill. lol.

These do, at the top. "optical gear display", rather https://jensonusa.com/store/product/S...Sti+Lever.aspx
I just had fun! decided to add 10 psi to my tires, and in the process of removing the pump frtom the valve pulled it against the rim hole and ripped it. wonderful. got the tube yesterday too.

Wow, I guess mine should have crapped out about 7 years ago then. Besides the Flight Deck having a gear indicator and virtual cadence, in my opinion it seems no more, or less, crappy than any other cyclo computer on the market.
Edit: but I admit that I am kind of inanely enamored with the gear indicator.

+1 I like mine too, and the gear indicator, but have only had Flight Deck for a year. But, I have two of them so that's almost like two years with no problems.
If I could change anything about Flight Deck, I'd add the ability to customize the screens. Also temperature would be nice (I'm a data junkie).

Has coddling tendencies.
My FD worked for over a year with but a few hitches that wasn't impossible to fix. And because I was so happy with it, I'm about to fit it on my Sram Rival controlled bike so I have all the features except gear indicator and cadence. To see what gear I'm in so I don't have to look back at the cassette and risk catastrophic injury, I've just installed the Dura-Ace inline gear indicator. It actually works with Rival. I'll post pics in another thread to show one and all how awesome it is.

If you work at a bike shop and you're asking these questions, what do you do when a customer asks YOU these questions?

Sora does not say flight deck, but as listed here, under technical specifications > shift lever or brake lever, it says sora/flight deck compatible. https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...=38496&eid=115
Anywayssss yeah.

I liked the Flight Deck on the Tiagra equipped Trek I had a while back. Put several thousand miles on it without any problems. The gear indicator was actually quite nice to have, the virtual cadence worked brilliantly, and the control buttons under the hoods were very convenient. Not that there aren't a number of other bike comps that could do much the same thing, but it wasn't the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

Just to throw this into the mix as well, I do believe that there is more than one model of the FD, and some are not compatible with certain levers. In addition to that, there are 9 speed models and 10 speed models, so if you decide you want one, make sure you do a little homework and find out which model is compatible with the levers you are going to use it on.

Um I have had a flight deck on both my current and previous bikes. Ultimate in uncool, but it is set so that all it tells me is what gear I'm in and what cadence I'm pushing. I live where there are a lot of small hills and rises - maybe that is why I like it as it allows you to stay in the right gear to keep the cadence in the mid 90s. I don't claim to be a great cyclist - it is not essential, but when you get used to having it, it is pretty nice.
