I recently stumbled across what I believe to be a vintage road bicycle. It's an Aende frame, has pelissier hubs, campagnolo rear brake, having searched the internet all the info I can seem to find is that Aende was a frame made by a local chappie Pongo Braithwaite (I live in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire), does anyone have any further info? I concentrate mainly on modern mountain bikes, but this one caught my eye. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Snozzle, does everybody in Notts have weird nicknames? Gotta love anybody named "Pongo", though. Also a note that he quit building in the '90s and is now distilling rum in the West Indies...hmmmm, not a bad life, eh?

Google Henri Pelissier. French racer and early TdF champion. Name was associated with some bikes and components, as you have found out already. I think Pelissier components eventually became part of Normandy which became part of......

As for your bike itself...can't tell you a thing. Sorry.

hi just a brief bit of info
pongo braithwaite was my uncle and he built aende frames in my dads garage in mansfield, yes he did stop building in the 90s and moved to the philipines, unfortunatly today i have just heard that uncle pongo died last night. he was a great man and the best frame builder.

either-way you are correct, Pongo was without doubt the best frame builder around anywhere! Plus he could always be relied on to give a memorable quote about anything from bike building to the meaning of life. The world is without doubt a poorer place without him... He was justfiably proud of every frame he built - Paramount or Aende - they were the best - ask anyone who rode one!

Here is my latest Aende , can't add much to this thread other than Pongo' s bikes always ride well and have a great following .

This one is quite unusual for it doesn't have any of the drilled lugs that his machine's usually have .
