was a bit surprised to note that the bicycle takes a 750 rear caliper. if frame geometry were more racelike than a regular sc would have expected a 630.

look forward to the responses of the experts...thank you.
I seriously doubt there is a difference between the frames. Cost savings and all that rot...

@greg3rd48, are the wheels 700c or 27"? If 27", the Pasela is one of the best tires available in that size. Continental also makes them in that size. If 700c, you have a huge array of choices. You may want to consider Grand Bois tires which are lighter but more expensive.

I know. I don't know if Greg is using the original wheels.

Hey Tom @noglider sorry about the delay in responding. Life was a bit busy during the past week. I discarded the original beat up tubulars but I cut out and saved the high flange Normandy hubs because they are in nice shape and I hopefully use them one day for a wheel build. I am using a new 700c wheelset and I picked up 28mm Pasela PT tires. Thanks for the suggestion @jeirvine. I just need to pick up some tubes. What are good tubes and do I use a tube with a 25-32mm spread or something close to that?

I have a lot of experience with those Normandy hubs. To me, they are not worth reusing.

Any inner tubes will do. Match the width to your tires as closely as you can. You can get away with using a too wide or too narrow tube.

Thanks Tom. I guess I will just save them just in case someone is ever looking for a pair. Thanks for the advice based upon experience.

while you have the fork out i would make two suggestions:

a) file a keyway in the steerer so you can add a toothed washer. this will allow for easier hs adjusting and better adjustment retention.

b) inspect steerer for straightness. this can be easily done with a straightedge. also look carefully at the area just above the fork crown race seat. when there is deformation this is the most common spot.

when repacking, make sure to fit twenty-five ball bearings per race, no more or less.

question for the raleigh experts:

does the sc tt have a geometry differing from that of the regular sc, and if so how so?

have never had occasion to run across one so i need to ask.
as an update to my issue, i just got the bike back from the shop over the weekend and the headset issue is gone!! yay, they said they had to reface and mill the head tube and it went back together as it should. The front is kind sloppy, the fork goes back and forth really easily but there isn't any play in the headset, i remember reading that this a characteristic of the SC, i chalk it up to the long fork rake. anyway took it on a 10 mile ride around the neighborhood and had a blast.. unfortunately i forgot i didn't adjust the rear derailleur and i shifted into the spokes on the way home, the Suntour Seven rd didn't survive, luckily i was able to pedal by taking the chain out of the RD an putting it on the big cog in the back and big cog in the front. what a sight..

when you say "...the front is kind of sloppy..." are you referring to the blades?

so hs is now fine?

sorry to read about your rear mech mishap.

hope you have been able to get things sorted.

what i mean by sloppy, is that it turns very easily from side to side, although the headset is tight and doesn't knock or bind. it rides fine, and i don't feel any pull or tightness in the steering. just curious if its a characteristic of the bike itself and not anything wrong really.

after i got home i hung the bike up for later, i was so annoyed with rd that i didn't want to look at it right then. ill fix it at some point this week, i have a few other projects ahead if it though,

Sold this today. It was a great bike but it was time to pass it on to someone else who would ride it more.

Where can I find Flamboyant red touch up paint?

I've been riding a lot over the last few years, and my ride has developed some paint chips and pitting. The color listed in Sheldon Brown's documents is Flamboyant Red. I have been toying with the idea of either repainting the frame or just touching it up, but I can't find Flamboyant Red. If I did a full painting, I would absolutely want the decals, but have been able to find only similar ones from later 70's Super Courses that don't match exactly. If anyone knows of good resources for the p
