Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone have a favorite brand on price or quality?

I don't, but I'm interested in possible alternatives.

For now, I'll stick with the new resin pads from Shimano (L03A), which have come down a few bucks ($28 in my area). They're supposedly longer-lasting than the previous generation and they have the fins... I don't know if I can go without the fins...

I've used them and the finned version and they're fine, but have gotten a lot more expensive in the last year.

Yeah, scarcity has driven prices up, but I've stuck with 'em. Buying just one set of aftermarket pads that don't work out would be more expensive.

I'm using pads without fins, they were what I could find locally when I needed them. 140mm rotors heat up more on the one big decent since I put them in.

We have a lot of hills here, but they're short, I don't weigh much, and I've never felt any brake fade, so fins don't matter much to me.

Jagwire organic (resin) brake pads, $11/pair. It doesn't get cheaper than this. I use them on my mtb and they are quiet and provide plenty of power for XC riding in the dry. If you ride wet a lot, then organic pads will wear out faster.

Yeah saw those elsewhere. Price is definitely right.
