Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question about shifting gears.

O.k. I'm trying to work on this gear changing thing. Question. When you are on a flat surface and you are picking up speed and your on the big sprocket on the front, where do you keep your chain in the back? I know that in the middle it doesn't strain the chain too much, but if your flying and you want to go to a higher gear in the back like all the way is it bad to keep it there for an extended length? Or should I keep the back chain in the middle and on the top sprocket in the front when on straight fast stretches? I know I'm over thinking this but have to know. Thanks.

You're over thinking it. Put the gears in a spot that let you pedal at the speed and cadence you desire. If you can go faster... go faster.

Yep, you are over thinking it. We all agree, even you. :-) Just don't cross-chain, keep your RPM's around 70-100, where ever you are comfortable and get the speed you desire.
