Saris Bones 2 bike trunk rack for our road bikes.
Do any of you guys use a Saris Bones 2 bike trunk rack for your bikes? I just picked one up for my toyota Corolla. Strong construction and all that, but how tight is the straps supposed to be? Also the side straps don't really have a good angle to secure in the trunk if that makes sense. When the side strap is hooked in its not completely straight with the strap so basically the strap buckle is angled more in contrast to the strapping. I'm worried this will come loose. Maybe I could use some extra foam in there to prevent any movement. Any ideas on this? Nice product but am nervous about going on the highway with this. Help!

I have one and it's great. You do have to cinch the straps tight when you put the rack on. I probably end up going around 3 times before the straps are taut. The straps don't have to be super tight but no slack. Make sure the bottom feet of the rack is on your bumper if possible, this adds stability.

I have the 3-bike gray plastic one and the straps work out okay on my trunk. My only issue is that there is plenty of opportunity for the metal strap buckles to rub the pain on my trunk and the hard plastic of the bike bones themselves has been doing a number on my seat tube as well. I've taken to wrapping a shop rag around the seat tube to soften any rubbing spots...

Suggestion...put the rack on the car. Then put your bikes on the rack. Then tighten the straps one more time.
Make sure you have the right straps in the right spot. The hooks/clamps with tell you where they go.
Damn racks will last forever.

Thanks for the feedback! I will try these tips and for extra security I will duct tape the bike to the car as well and then shrink wrap the bike to the car. No, just kidding. Thanks all!

I use the 3. Usually with 2 bikes but I've loaded it up with heavy beach cruisers and taken it for 100+ mile drives. It recently carried 2 more reasonably weighted bikes over 2400 miles. Switches between 3 very different cars (Mustang, Chevy HHR, and S-Type Jaguar Sedan) with no problems.
Great rack

I have the Saris 2 on a Camry. Bunches of trips to Florida and back with my bike and wife's bike - no problems. Just pull the straps real tight. Kindly - Don

PROTIP: One more thing about application for the rack. I cut up pieces of a washcloth so the hooks for the straps don't damage the car's paint as bad.
