I'm back, nice to see you all again
Hi all, I dropped off the face of the commuting Earth for about 9 months but am SOOO glad to be back. It is nice to see a lot of new faces here.
This year sucked...minimal commuting, no racing, only two centuries, and very little desire to ride at all. I am probably going to get kicked off my local racing team/club and I deserve it. My family went through a mini-crisis (no death or anything; just a complete change of the way we saw the world) and I became somewhat (ok, a LOT) depressed starting about March. For the first time in years, I didn't even care about posting in the road, commuting and cx forums (I used to LIVE here). Things seem to be looking up lately though and I even commuted two days this past week (28-30 mile RT) from Meridian to Boise.
Just thought I would check in since I need all the motivation I can get to get my fat butt back on the bike.
Good to be back with my fellow bikeforums commuters!
Troy

Welcome back!
Browse around a few of the old postings to catch up and they should get you motivated to get back into riding. A great group of folks here and always some good stories, advice, etc.
Enjoy the ride,
Jeff

Dude, just get back on the bike and ride! If you can start commuting again in the middle of winter, then you're good to go.

I know all too much about life changes and depression. All I can say is the bike is the best therapy I've found. Hope things continue upwards for you

Great that you are back and feeling better.
I am no therapist, but I think dropping the exercise is probably not a great idea. Keep at it, it might just pull you through the bad times.
What good is life without good health?
By way of the motivation you asked for... get your ass on your bike!

Well, someone will say it so I might as well ... it doesn't hurt to get professional help when you are depressed. Sometimes there can be some things going on that will leave you vulnerable to relapse if they are not addressed. There are a lot of different physical ailments that can be at fault. Just had a friend who was having problems in that department and it turned out their thyroid wasn't working very well ... when they fixed that the depression went away. Not saying that is what was causing it in your case but it is not that uncommon for things we think are mind issues alone that have other causes as well ... So get a thorough physical exam and tell the doctor you have been suffering from depression, it can't hurt and you might be very glad you did.
