Brev Stop?

Has anyone previously heard of this brand? I need a 126mm skewer, but I like to know I'm riding on quality:

According to Google translate "Brev" is Italian for "patent".

I'll defer to those with more knowledge of Italian components, but I wouldn't be shocked if the other side of the QR handle reads "Campagnolo".

second tier Italian

back in the sixties and early seventies if an Italian cycle did not have Campag hubs the skewers would be either Gnutti or Brev Stop

have never known a maker for them

AFAIK name appears on no other products

iab is sure to have more and better information for us

agreed it's second (or even third) tier Italian, appearance looks very close to early Miche which also got rebranded as "Cycle Gear" (or something like that) for US market.

I am not impressed by the finish of the drive-side locking nut. I might keep looking.

gnurling appears it may have been munged by someone going at it with pump pliers

have observed more than one generation of these

do not know years of production

they seem to disappear somewhere in the mid-1970's

Cycle Pro?

I was wondering why an '80s Miche hubset of mine had those skewers.

The clamp will work fine. The problem is that the cap has no serrations. Or maybe the serrations wore off. If you are using this on a horizontal type drop-out, it could slip. You need something that looks like this:

That's a good call. I didn't even notice.

1989Pre I have one in one of my yogurt containers full of quick releases. I'm not home right now, but can check to see if it's a front. If so, Doo you want it so you can make a matched set?

I run a modern, lightweight skewer in the front on my Technium. This is the bike this skewer would be going on. I need something more robust to hold the rear wheel in-place, because the rear drops are steel (fork ends are aluminum). Thanks for the offer, but if you have something for 126mm o.l.d., please drop me a line.

FWIW: Sunlite makes both chromed and black steel skewer nuts that are stylistically a decent match for many C&V skewers. Here's a photo, from an eBay listing.

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/BNoAA...kR/s-l1600.jpg

Photo doesn't show the dropout side, but it it knurled - not quite as sharply as some, but IMO well enough to grip. (I own 2 pair of these, so I checked one to make sure.) Mine are the chromed variety; they seem to be fairly well-built and finished.

They're available from multiple vendors on eBay for quite a reasonable price: about $8/pair plus sales tax, shipped, to US addresses.

Not a perfect solution, but workable if you need a set of skewer nuts of that style and can't immediately find the exact ones needed to match an existing skewer or set.
